here's to the man who has inspired me, the music has been with me through good & bad, to the band that rocked my world in Hollywood FL, most of all to the guys who have it together & know whats' important.. doing what you love & taking care of the ones you love!

In October I had to design & choreograph a show for East High School Color Guard in Des Moines, IA. This was for their state championship in December & it had to be the right music for everyone.. for myself to create, the kids to perform to, the judges to score, & the audience to be entertained. My friend Michelle (the group's director) & I kicked around a couple ideas & Chris' cover of "Wanted" kept creeping in. I wanted to do it, but wasn't sure if the kids would get into it, if the could really get the emotion up... I was also doubting myself to put together a show that would portray the music & "rock out!" Finally Michelle says, "just do it!" & I realized it was the right music... since it's a cover the the adults in the audience will remember the original, the kids will get hyped up since to them it's 'new' & the judges will enjoy it cause it's something familiar with a different sound. oh yeah & I could have fun getting in touch with my 'inner rocker' when designing it!
So the time came, I flew into Des Moines to see the competition in my rocker mode - JP-style mohawk, sweater with the tattoo design that will eventually go on my back, leather jeans, bikder boots & my big wallet chain clanking at my side (which I was wearing LOOONG before Chris made it a fashion statement.. but damn does he wear it well!) The kids brought it, put it out on the floor & had a great time. The judges loved it & it got an amazing audience reaction. A parent from a competing school ran up to me after they were done, just panting & wide eyed, raving me to me about how much she loved the show.. all I could think was that she was remembering lusting after Bon Jovi when she was in high school, & probably again when Chris did the cover on AI

so, why am I hanging out here... hmmm I guess it's cause I have such a fondness for Daughty the band, the man & the music. From the first time I saw AI & Chris' audition, I thought.. well being a normal gay male, I though "s*** that boy's HOT!" Then seeing how he was willing to put his life with his family on hold to give his dream a shot really got to me. I'd never watched AI regularly before but that season I was glued to the set every week. My life was not in the best place at the time, I had just finished fashion design school, was looking for work in Los Angeles & a friend in Palm Springs was letting me hang at his place while I got my s*** together. I was doing some restaurant work at nights to get by, & my relationship of 3 years which I had every intention of being the one for life, was crumbling. Needless to say, getting to be entertained on a weekly basis by this guy was something that helped take my mind off my worries at the time
When Chris left AI, my first reaction was that this was the best thing for him, to not win it & be tied into the obligations the winner has to deal with. He's way too talented & popular to go to waste. So seeing his rise has been a great joy for me. At the same time, my life has gotten back on track. Yes the relationship ended but not from a lack of love, just a matter of being in different places in life & needing different things. A job offer in the niche that I love presented itself. It meant saying goodbye to Southern California & driving to South Florida to start anew, but I had Daughtry's first CD to keep me company on the drive. A lot of tears & frustration in dealing with a new place & a very different way of life than I'm used to, but I'm hanging in there & doing just fine.
