One show just wasn't enough . . .
What better way was there to spend a Friday night? My best friend and I could think of no better way than to head down to Indy on March 9th and see Eve to Adam, Cinder Road and Daughtry. We had almost forgotten how much fun it was to go to a concert and worry about nothing - only enjoy the people around you and the atmosphere that the band created. Seeing Daughtry was the perfect way.
We had both fallen for Chris' sultry, southern voice when we first saw him on American Idol. When tickets went on sale for the Indy concert, we were both sitting on our computers at 10 am and on the phone together to see who could get tickets. Sadly, neither of us did! But thanks to the wonderful Daughtry fansite, we were given a second chance. I ducked outta work for a couple hours to make my way to my computer to get them and even talked my brother into doing the same for me! I was rewarded for my hard work with 2 tickets for the show.
It was a relatively short road trip - only 3 hours - but it was filled with plenty of laughter and excitement. We had no idea what to expect - seeing Daughtry in a bar was a far cry from our last concert . . . NSync. We found our way easily to Birdy's at around 4, parked in front of the local DQ and headed towards the line. We were thankful to find there was only about 50 people in front of us.
As the sun dropped, our excitement rose. You could hear Daughtry's soundcheck clear enough in the parking lot to sing along to all your favorite songs. We got our first taste of Cinder Road via an IPOD, signed up to help the organization ONE and kept our eyes peeled for any glimpse of the band.
As we were let into Birdy's around 7:30, we finally saw how close we would be to all the talent that was to be on the stage that night. We waited for what seemed like forever until Cinder Road came out. After listening to them, we knew we had discovered yet another CD we would be able to listen to over and over and never tire of. After a short while, it was Eve to Adam's turn to take the stage. They proved to be an intense group of diverse musicians who were clearly doing what they loved to do. As they left the stage, you could feel the buzz of excitement grow - we all knew who was next.
We had "persuaded" our way up to three rows from the stage - dead center so we would be able to see everything. I had my camera in one hand and my cell phone in another - prepared to take pictures to send to all my friends and family who wished they could have been there. The crowd exploded and three guys made their way to the stage . . . closely followed by the man of the hour in a stocking cap and ONE t-shirt.
The acoustic show was amazing . . . I can think of no word to use to better describe it. I can honestly say it was the best concert I have been to. Everyone who was there supported the music and could sing along to every lyric that was sang by the band without missing a beat. The energy that was in the bar that night took away all of the problems and worries that I had been facing and allowed me 3 hours of pure happiness and enjoyment. It was a natural high that left me wanting more as soon as it was over . . . That is why one show was not enough.
We had missed the opportunity to get tickets for the shows in Michigan, Ohio or Kentucky - so we set our sights on shows that were just a bit farther. We searched for tickets to the St. Charles show, but were unlucky. We then decided to look for Kansas City tickets. It was the last show scheduled for the tour (at the time) so we knew we HAD to get tickets. We found tickets on ebay, watched the auction closely and won!
So now we find ourselves preparing for another road trip, this time 10 hours long. I'm sure it will still be filled with all the laughter and excitement that the first one held - maybe even more so now that we know what to expect. We'll get to meet up with fans that we made from the first show, meet new fans and experience everything all over again. There is one thing I know for sure - this show will be no less amazing as the first because of the pure talent in Daughtry. Their voices will sounds just as good and they will surely rock out for their fans. Their dedication to us is just one of the reasons why I'm a fan.
