I am a fan (and you should be too), because...
Well, the reasons are endless and hard to put into words. It is very tempting to say, "You should be a fan BECAUSE I am", but I guess that is not a very good argument. The band provokes so much emotion in all of their fans, including myself, so here are my top 5 reasons:
5. PASSION- Remember when you were in middle or high school and there were bands or artists that you loved passionately? I'm talking teenage infatuation. You wanted every record or cassette your idol put out. You saved up your money to buy the coveted concert ticket. Posters filled your walls. The volume on the radio went up every time their song came on. Want to feel this way again? Then listen to Daughtry. I haven't felt this way about an artist in a very long time and it is a fantastic feeling to remember.
4. BONDING- Daughtry's music has broken the generation and gender gap. The band appeals to everyone of all ages. My 10 year old daughter, who loves Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls, loves Daughtry. My 17 year old son, who normally listens to Slipknot and Korn, loves Daughtry. I had to buy each of them their own CD's. My husband, guitar player and music critic, was slow to get on board. I made him go to the Atlanta concert with me and he even admitted after the show that they were great. It is so cool to have something to bond with my kids over. We love listening to the CD together, reading the fan sites, and talking about Daughtry. Its an added bonus that the music is actually something I can listen to with my kids, while still being edgy and rockin'!
3. BEST LIVE SHOW- I have been to tons of concerts in my lifetime, some good and some not so good. I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the April show in Atlanta at The Loft. I was expecting a fantastic show, but words can barely describe how amazing it was. They are hands down the best live artists I have ever seen. Because of the layout of the venue, the set was performed unplugged. Being able to sound so great is a true testament to the musical abilities of the guys in the band and the vocal talents of Chris. Not many artists today can pull that off. These guys are definintely not "studio created" musicians. They are the real deal. The way they interacted with the audience, the fun they were having on stage, the way everyone in the audience knew the words to every song, and the humbleness and gratitude that they expressed made it a night to remember. Some of the songs actually brought me to tears. Now I want to see them plugged in!!
2. THEY LOVE THEIR FANS- What other band out there today listens to their fans the way Daughtry does? Nobody I know of. When the tickets went on sale for the tour and sold out so quickly, so many fans were disappointed. By making tickets available to their fans only through the website truly showed that they cared and wanted the real fans to have an opportunity to see them perform. How about the VIP giveaways for every show? That is certainly going the extra mile. Even the merchandise shows that they listen to their fans. Once the tour started, everyone was posting comments about how much they loved what the guys wore. So, instead of coming out with some lame concert T-shirts with the dates on the back, the band and RCA came up with unbelievably cool t-shirts and hoodies for their fans to buy. I have three by the way and wear them all the time, even to tennis practice!
1. THE MUSIC ROCKS- The CD is hands down the best CD out in a long, long time. I had it in my hands on November 21, and have listened to it every day! Every song ignites a different emotion. Need, desire, lust, pain, longing, fun, unrequitted love, true love, reflection. Everyone has felt all of these emotions at some time in their lives. Each song will take you each of them. I have a new favorite every day. Every song on my top 25 played on my I-Pod is a Daughtry or Daughtry related song. I get excited every time I hear one played on the radio and can't wait to hear more. The CD has obtained both critical and commercial success, which is rare in the music industry today. There is no doubt in my mind that the world will be seeing much, much more of Daughtry in years to come. I'm sure that this is only the beginning, but I'm glad I was on board from the very start.
Early Christmas Present!
I was just watching VH1 and Daughtry's interview and my husband came in the room. He always teases me about my "obsession" and said it sure would be great if I could see them again in concert. I told him that I wanted to see them in Atlanta(that's where I live) when they come in April. He said it would be greater if I could see them sooner, like in a week in Greenville. I thought he was just joking, but then he told me that he has me two tickets for the second row!!!!!! I can't believe I'm going to road trip to see Daughtry! Best Christmas present ever. Now I just have to figure out who to take with me, hubby is going to stay home and take care of the kids!
