It was now about 10 p.m and the last act before DAUGHTRY was due to go on..........there was a delay because of the rain, so DAUGHTRY didn't come on until after 11 p.m. The crowd never did thin out......we tried to get back inside to see the guys, but it was impossible. We had to stand way off to the side and way, way back from the stage. We could hardly see them, but we could hear them really well. As I said earlier, they were AWESOME. This just was not a real DAUGHTRY concert............the majority of the people there were not really DAUGHTRY fans. They either hung around because they were too wasted to realize the other bands were done, or out of curiosity about what DAUGHTRY would be like. There were some seriously scary people at this concert, some biker types, many, many druggies, lots of kids and teeny boppers. Chris and the guys did their utmost to get the crowd involved, but they were just kinda standing around. The bunch behind us never shut up yakking once..........all they could talk about was how much they wanted to eff Chris, and how effing hot he was, and on and on. It would have been funny if it hadn't been so pathetic.

After the guys played, we went over to the fences that cordoned off the bus area to see if we could catch a glimpse of them. The mounted police were everywhere, and after about 15 minutes, they told us we had to leave. We started walking off and they were right behind us on the horses, close enough that we could feel the horses' breath on our necks!!!!!!!! They were very ugly to us and we hadn't done anything wrong at all. They kept inching the horses closer and closer to us trying to make us walk faster........it was completely unnecessary, but kind of a fitting end to a very frustrating day.

After Operator was finished, Cat had to leave to take a phone call. While she was gone, the couple behind us decided to pull back.....they had been much closer to the moshers and were getting severly jostled. I felt badly for them......... they had come to see DAUGHTRY and were so excited because it was their first time. Then the crowd got even denser and tempers started to flare............the standees were upset with people who'd brought chairs because the chairs were taking up so much space that they wanted to occupy...........never mind these chair people had been there since 2 p.m. and the standees were late comers. A woman next to me was so wasted she puked all over the place, including on me. Fortunatley, I had some water to wash it off my leg and foot with. A young guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was okay - which was really sweet of him. He then told me that it would get much worse with the next group who was called HELLYEAH! I decided then that if Cat wasn't back by the time these guys came on, I was gonna make my way to the street and find her. She came back shortly after that and we decided to leave when the guy on our right started a fight with the two women who were sitting in front of him because they wouldn't move their chairs. (Our chairs had been collapsed by the crowd by now...and two women had pushed their way in front of us and were being confrontational about it. They were also drinking heavily, as were most of the crowd who weren't already stoned out of their minds. One guy was so bad off that he couldn't stop scratching........he obviously needed some kinda fix.)

By this time, it was around 5:45 p.m. It had been hot, but now it was beginning to cool off some. The next group was setting up...........and this is where it began to go south on us. I'm just gonna relate what all transpired and let you draw your own conclusions. All around us now were hard core heavy metal headbangers........the stink of weed was heavy in the air and many of these people were obviously stoned and/or drunk. (Can you BE stoned AND drunk simultaneously? I have no frame of reference for this, y'all) The next group was called Operator.

This part of my review will concern the festival itself. It's gonna be a long one, y'all...there's a lot to tell. I'm just gonna relate the events to you as I remember them.

BayFest was set up in dowtown Mobile with several city blocks cordoned off, and tents and stages set up at various points within this area. When this concert was posted on DO, there were two other acts listed on the same stage as DAUGHTRY on the same night. I've been to Jazz Fest here in New Orleans, so I kind of knew what to expect as to logistics. The difference is that Jazz Fest is held on the Farigrounds in N.O. and not spread out over many city blocks.

We got to Mobile around noon, checked into our hotel and headed out to scope out the site. The gates were due to open at 2, so we went to grab a bite to eat. We were in line at 2 p.m and got to the stage where DAUGHTRY was scheduled to play at about 2:15.........they weren't due to come on until 10:45 p.m............four other acts had been added, making a total of six bands before DAUGHTRY, none of which we had ever heard of. We were able to get spots about 4 rows back from the stage, right in front of the central mike, so we felt good about that. We figured as the evening wore on, we'd be able to move up a row or two. Some people ahead of us had set up chairs, so Cat went back to the hotel to get the chairs she wisely thought to bring. While she was gone, the crowd got denser and the first act came onstage. They were a local band called StereoHype and they were quite good. They obviously have a pretty strong local following.

This review will be done in two parts.........a review of DAUGHTRY followed by a review of the BayFest experience I had. It's the only fair way to do this.

DAUGHTRY was late in starting due to a rain delay, but - as always - it was worth the wait. They were FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! This was my third time seeing them live and every time, they are better! They were so tight last night..........Chris' voice sounded AWESOME, the guys played flawlessly........they make you forget the cd with the way they put their own stamp on the performances of each track from it.

This was not a typical DAUGHTRY concert, as I will explain in the next part, but once these guys hit the stage, there was no doubt as to who were the rank amateurs and who is the HOTTEST BAND in the world!!!!!!!!!!!! DAUGHTRY took it to a new high..............they gave a rock and roll clinic last night, and I hope the other acts stuck around to see what CLASS can add to a band's performance. A wonderful friend I've made here on the DO site put this into perspective for me just a few minutes ago...........she's from New Zealand and has yet to see the guys in concert. She said she and her fellow DAUGHTRY fans in NZ can only dream about seeing them live in concert........I've been fortunate enough to have seen them THREE times now.............that, my friends is what it's all about............and that is PRICELESS.

This was the MOST amazing concert I have ever attended! Saw them at CPR Fest and they were really good, but last night they surpassed anything I could ever have hoped for in my wildest dreams. From the opening chord of Crashed to the final reverberation of There and Back Again, Chris and the guys put on a show those who attended are not likely to ever forget. Such energy! Such camaraderie! Such musicianship! It's hard to beleive these guys have only been playing together since January.........they sound and act like a band that has been around for years, and trust me, they WILL be around for years and years and years!

Next up was Sevendust...more of the same. They were followed by 7 Mary 3 who I kinda felt sorry for cuz the crowd was rather disinterested, and the band looked like they had fallen on hard times. But they got a huge ovation for their last number.....maybe cuz they were done! LOL After them came Puddle of Mudd who were really good and who the crowd adored. During all these performances there was pushing and shoving and poking and prodding....often the security guards came over the barricades to eject people and to break up a fight once.............very hairy at times! My son was quite worried about his Mom, and he and I got separated by about four rows of people somehow, but I never gave any ground and I held onto my spot in front of the mike and three rows back!
