All These Lives???

I love this song whenever I listen to it I get goosebumps. They say songs have a meaning. I have heard different stories regarding this song. Some say it is about a run a way, but listening to the music it makes me think of a kidnapping. Can someone help me as to what is "behind the music".

thanks for sharing the video.
I can't imagine what the families of these missing children are going through.

Abduction...that's what I get out of this track. Sad

but I never imagined kidnapping/abduction. I did feel a "darker" side to it but have enjoyed the song as I do all the tracks on the cd. Reading this has been very enlightening.

Finally, some answers! I have to admit that I was wondering about it too. Oddly enough when I first heard this track I thought of something completely different from drugs or child abduction (although both fit the lyrics quite well). I actually thought of suicide when I heard this song. Particularly the first couple of lines..doesn't come down when she calls, time for breakfast, mama can't get down those halls fast enough to see, broken glass sprayed across the floor, she's not breathin' anymore...Granted those lyrics could refer to just about anything. Unless the abductor threw the kid out the window? Or maybe it's making a reference to the initial kidnapping here? Not sure but the missing kid thing does make sense and the more I listen to the song the more I think that's true.
However I can' t help but think about the suicide thing, especially when Daughtry sings the line, 'She asks, when will I be free?' Could mean when will this creepy guy/woman let me go home? Or it could mean when will I be free from my depression/abuse/anxiety whatever is causing the person internal and awful pain. Trust me I know all too well what this feels like and I know I don't ever want to experience it again. FYI: I got help for my problems and I'm good now but if anyone is considering such an option just know that you're not alone that SOMEONE out there, whether it be a friend, an old friend, an estranged or distant relative someone DOES care! Okay I'm off my soapbox now, just feel strongly about that issue;) At any rate that's my 2 cents worth.

love Daughtry! They have listened to all of the songs accept this one until recently because I didn't want it to scare them because of what it's about (abduction). But they have started listening to it and it is now their FAVORITE song!! I think the lyrics are subtle enough that my boys (8 and 5) haven't picked up on what they are talking about.

All these lives is about child abduction.. If you listen to the words real carefully that appears to be what it is talking about.

Before reading this I acutally thought that this song was about addiction. Not hearing from the person..they are are a diease...you ain't coming in reminded me of tough love. The father and mother could also be realted to watching your son or daughter be abducted by drug addiction. Ironic how we all get different but significant meaning from the same lyrics and music.

ALL THESE LIVES (www.alltheselives.org) is an unofficial partner that supports the awareness of child abduction and exploited children by using the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the main source of information. ALL THESE LIVES will post child abduction cases of North Carolina on www.alltheselives.org and other cases will be at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children website www.missingkids.com.

Also, ALL THESE LIVES was inspired from the song of the same name written by Chris Daughtry and Mitch Allan. The song appears on the debut CD from Daughtry, simply called Daughtry, out now on RCA Records.

Below is a quote from Chris Daughtry about the song, "All These Lives".

"This song I wrote with Mitch [Allan]. We didn't want to write about the same old thing. He brought up the theme of child abduction and it became a really deep and emotional song. A song shedding light on the people out there that do that sort of thing. As a parent, this hit close to home because no parent would want to go through that."

This website is a fansite and supporter for child abduction issues and no way affiliated with Chris Daughtry, Mitch Allan, Daughtry, RCA, 19 Recordings or 19 Entertainment, and National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

This song is nothing short of the blight that scourges our society - people kidnapping little children. I applaud Daughtry for taking it on because it is a stigma few want to deal with but the bottom line is that these scumbags need to be dealt with...squarely and quickly. In the name of Jeffrey Curley (google his name and be prepared....no human who did this should live, IMHO)

I'm glad they wrote it. It really made me realize the issue more. After doing a project on it, IT'S TERRIBLE! I'm SO glad Chris and Mitch Allen wrote it, because it really opened my eyes.

i had to do a project on it (it's on my do page) JUST WOW. This is a HUGE issue in our world. Just a few days ago i saw on the news "Child Abducted." It seems like every week there's another child abducted. It's just REALLY sad. After doing my project, WOW, i never realized how serious it really is.

I heard this song it made me think about the tragedy of September 11th and all the innocent lives lost..."Never gonna let you take my world from me, The world outside may know you're breathing, But you ain't coming in." I felt the aftermath of that day all over again when I heard this song for some reason.

It's a beautiful song whether about child abduction or something personal to you. So emotional to hear it live acoustically too!

Before he started singing he said, "This is my favorite song on the album."
Mine too!!! I was so happy they did it. Amazing song & I think it's about an abduction. Would also be great for AMW or something like that. Very powerful lyrics.

I love "All These Lives" on Chris's CD. It is definatly one of my favorite songs. I never really got what this song meant. I thought it was talking about someone running away because of what the lyrics say but IDK. What part of the lyrics say it is about kidnapping cuz when I listen to it I can't find it.

Marissa

the meaning is about the issue in our world with kidnapping. This song is the only real song that is making a difference about it. It makes us relize that we have to appreciate what we have and each other, because it might not be their tomorrow.

This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the CD! Well, all of them are my favorite, but this one is absolutely amazing! I've listened to it probably hundreds of times, and it gives me goosebumps every time. I just saw him in concert on Saturday and he did an acoustic version of it, which was just about the most beautiful thing in the world. I took a video of it and recorded it on my phone, so now I listen to that all the time. The lyrics are so powerful, and it has a great meaning. And if you get the chance to listen to an acoustic version, do it. It's been stuck in my head ever since. The most BEAUTIFUL thing I have ever heard in my life!!!

This song is an amazing song, i could listen to it for hours..i can relate to it as well...

this song, i believe, is about a current problem that is very high these days, suicide. i believe thats what its about..

but glad he didn't sing this song when I saw concert in Greensboro----I would of been trying to hold back the tears----not a good sight for a rockin homecoming !!!! I feel this song will come into play in a big way somewhere down the raod. Glad we,fans, are talking about this song---the talent of Chris and Mitch is to be congradulated on such a powerful song.

bebe

My favorite is All These Lives because it's unique and meaningful!!! It's about missing children. I think it's great that a rock band sings this too. Don't know why they didn't sing it in concert.... Very touching song, I get chills too.

From the minute I heard this track I was trying to figure out exactly what was going on! I thought the child had been abducted, my daughter claimed the child had run away - its been driving me nuts, but after MUCH diagnosing of the lyrics and dissecting of the song, I think that bebe and company have got it right - gotta be an abduction Chris, be a sweetie and just confirm this would you Shocked)
By the way - finally an album I can listen to from beginning to end because every track rocks! Nice work team.

didn't see this thread before i posted this same info on the other...check out the "all these lives" thread..i put a quote on there from chris pertaining to the song.....

being a mom , i would say that is my worse fear ever and im so paranoid about waking up and my boys are gone.i make sure everynight the doors and windows are locked.

Hey Bare it,----love this song too---the meaning to me is about children being kidnapped right from their own beds. Remember Eliazbeth Smart--this song could be about her and many other children who have suffered the same type of abduction. Look at the words to this song and I think you will agree. I posted that I would love for Chris to talk about this song in his next blog. I think this is the most powerful song on the cd, everytime I hear it I end up in tears. Anyway glad someone else ask about this song. Would be a great video for awareness of this every growing problem.
