It's so sad that when you're asked something and you answer honestly....you're made out to be the bad guy. Yes, I'm referring to the Rolling Stone post. The funny thing is, if you heard the whole conversation you would've heard all the good things I said about the show as well. Like for instance: How it's an amazing platform to launch a career....."If you take it seriously!!!!" Let's not forget I was a struggling artist for 11 years that never got any respect or notoriety so know that I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity that Idol gave me. And that's where my comments came from. It all started when the interviewer (who was great by the way) asked me where the "Idol stigma everyone talks about" comes from. Ya know....the reason people never take anyone from the show serious in the real world and why people say "oh they came from AI, they're not real artists." So, I answered that I don't feel that enough "artists" try out for the show because of how many people they focus on that are obviously there for comedic and entertainment value. And when you focus enough on people that aren't serious about it then it's hard for the audience to take you as an artist serious. And it's also hard as a potential contestant to think it's a good way to get seen because you're afraid of being made a joke of. I also said I think it's AWESOME that they are letting the contestants play their own instruments and that I feel that will show something in the contestants that people (the audience) never get to see....but that wasn't printed. My long winded point is this....I was never trying to "DISS" the show or "BITE THE HAND THAT FED ME" so to speak. I was simply giving my input on what I think would spice the show up a bit.
Sorry for being honest. God bless!-Chris

Chris is exactly right and I'm just being honest!!!!!!
I may be a little late in commenting but i have to say that Chris is exactly right!!!!That is the reason it took me so long to find out about him!!!! I personally never watched American Idol for that same reason-I thought it was a Joke!!!(I mean come on now- a white dude with an afro?what is this 1973?!?)And look what i missed!!!!!!I didn't see Chris' performances till I saw them on youtube in Feb of 08!!!!But boy was I "blown away!"what could I say???!!!!"When I did finally see them I bought them on a dvd on e-bay- I watch it every day now and still get choked up!!!!!Love ya Chris!!!Sorry it took me so long to find you!!!!I would have voted for you!!!!! lol!!!!!

The best times I'll never remember!
keep doin what you do!
That is complete b.s. that people take things out of context like that. First of all, i'm sure most of the AI audience agrees with you! I know i do. I have always watched idol, except for season 2 for some reason, but I have never gotten into any of them like season 5. I obviously have you to thank for that! even before season 5 and especially after, i just haven't been that into it. I can't tell you how many people have said they've sworn of the show altogether since you were voted off. more b.s. Anyway, you've done so amazingly well without winning, and you singing the hit "do i make you proud" just wouldn't have been right! With that said, you have a huge fan base that will love you no matter what. Most of us love you BECAUSE of your honesty and straight forwardness. And that you sing really well and can actually play an instrument, but those are just minor details... All i know is that I have the wonderful privilege of meeting you in less than 4 days, and i'm quite ecstatic about that! Keep rockin!

Rolling Stone post
Things like that are always taken out of context, and I believe even Randy Jackson said so on an interview with him. I wouldn't worry about it Chris, you are awesome and everyone thinks so, especially me!

;
The show is much better now that they are letting the contestants play their instruments, I agree. But, there is no reason for you to worry, plus (from most of these comments) most people agree and understand what you're saying.
Stones Magazine
I first heard this on the local news, Fox Chicago, about what Chris Daughtry had said about American Idol. As soon as I heard what they said, I never believed once that it was even half true. Im sure that all your "real" fans never even gave it a second thought.
YOUR THE BEST!

No need for apologies!
You spoke the honest truth! Screw them. Don't ever change. It's so sad that the media wants to find someone successful and attempt to ruin them. Love you, Chris!

Honesty is still the best policy
Chris,
One of the reasons you have so many committed, loving and loyal fans is your honesty. And I don't think we'd have it any other way. You stay out of the negative media spotlight so I think just had to find something negative to say about you. Don't let any of that garbage change who you are or what you do.
DAUGHTRY and Gwen Stacey Rocks! You go girl!
Loved Gwen's version of a "smart ass" comeback to the Rolling Stone interview. If you missed it, just scroll down and you'll find it. It's a MUST READ.

Have y'all heard what Simon Cowell is saying about American Idol? The EXACT SAME THING CHRIS SAID!!!! Don't worry, Chris, Simon's got your back!

More Truth and Consequences
Don't give up on Idol yet. Yeah, last season was pretty lame, but what do expect after a killer Season 5 that was FULL of amazing talent, with Chris leading the pack, of course. When they voted Chris off I swore I'd never watch it again. But, I have to admit I'm hooked. After all, where else can all of us regular folks (with no talent) get a chance to help another regular guy (with talent) make it to the top? DAUGHTRY has proven that you don't have to win on Idol to make it. You just have to get on Idol where the rest of us can see you and push you up to the top! How much more "interactive" can you get? We love it!
P.S. And thanks to the band DAUGHTRY for giving us this awesome website and making us feel like part of your family. May your success reach the highest peaks and your hearts stay rooted firmly in truth and love. We love you guys!

Truth AND consequences
I know how you feel. My family says I'm often too honest. This is a messed up world we live in and I've learned if you "throw your pearls to the swine...they'll just turn and rend you." (and that's straight from the good book.) Just stay true to your roots. You have always been so humble and down to earth, and that is what has endeared you to so many of us. You have a good heart and soul, and a good heart is a honest heart. So even when you speak the truth with no malice intended, there are others who just won't understand because they don't have as pure a heart as you do. I've learned that sometimes "less in more", if you know what I mean...and I guess you do now. But remember, we have the power to pick and choose our battles, and some of them just aren't worth fighting. I have gone back to using Grandma's old saying: if you can't say something nice (even though it is the truth), just don't say anything at all. Hang in there. We love you.

Rolling Stone Magazine
I have to say that I am not very pleased with Rolling Stone Magazine. I picked one up at the airport, the special "Double Issue" with the 100 best songs, 50 best albums, etc. of 2007. I figured Daughtry would be in there so I got the magazine tore it open and discovered not only was Daughtry not on either list but in the small article they did on the Grammys, the band wasn't even mentioned! I couldn't believe the 100 best song list of 2008, I thought Rolling Stone was a Rock magazine. Needless to say it automatically threw up a flag for me that Rolling Stone wasn't particularly fond of Daughtry then a friend emailed me the Rolling Stone post and I knew it had to be a pick and choice of words. I am so glad you stood up for yourself! See you in Milwaukee!

That's correct.
And that's all you should ever be is honest.

The Best Band EVER
being honest and true is what we the fans love about you
Chris I think that in your cituation it was very sad that they " you the way they did, if they would look at everything that you have done for your fans and to say thank you for getting such a chance to prove that you had what it takes. Often people can not deal with honest people and think everone should "Sugarcoat" things so to speak and it is great that eeryone is not like that. I just want to say Way To Go Daughtry!!!!! now maybe they will reconsider the way they do things and more true artists will com out and turn AI out. Good Lck to you in the up-coming year I look foward to hearing you for along, long time You and the band are AWESOME and they are just jealous. they need to qiut hating on you.As i always tell you ach time I write a comment cherish your family and live each day as it as your last.
It's All Good
Don't worry about it. I know I'll be in Greensboro for your Homecoming throwdown regardless of any misquote. One thing AI did do, is it enabled us to see your true colors (Loyalty, Loving, Professional). On our wedding night (eighteen years ago), I missed an opportunity to take my wife to see Bon Jovi and have heard about it ever since. I was unable to get tickets to see you in Fayetteville, NC this past year. In March, I'll make up for both. I can't wait!!!
The music speaks it owns language, you and the band needs respect.
We love your music and the person/band behind this. We needs Daughtry so much, so if someone writes wrongly in magazines or newspaper/telly and want to talk lies and just want thier own fame of the glory, this is your songs and music so keep rocking on, we support you to the end.
The Swede Rocker
Honesty
Chris,
The only thing you are guilty of is being honest and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. What you said in the interview really wasn't that bad, you were just giving your opinion on the show and how to make it better. It's sad that honesty in an interview is twisted into something controversial just to sell magazines or further your career or whatever. There is no need for you to apologize for being honest because your honesty is what makes you different in this industry and in the times we live in. It's one of the reasons (besides the music) why your true fans love you and support you. You are who you are and you don't hide it. So, thank you for being honest.
Alesia
DON'T APOLOGIZE
For speaking the truth-EVER! AI is what it is and we all know it. I don't know why it's not okay to speak the truth about something, when it's not necessarily all kudos. So what? That's life. I respect and applaud you Chris for being open and honest, regardless of what AI may think about it. They should know more than anyone, gotta take the constructive critisizm the same as they can dish it out. Can't think of a better person to give that than you, and you earned that right to do so!!! KEEP ROCKIN'!!!!

NO NEED TO EXPLAIN
You would never have to explain a comment like that to your family and thats what we your true fans are to you, so I and your your fans dont feel like you have to explain yourself to us you were being honest about your feelings as you always are and they are trying to dish you. Don't let them get to you.We your fans are behind you . Don't let them get to you .

Media - Just Like Politicians
Chris --
No Worries, You have to remember that the Media at times can be just like Politicians.... You can't believe a word they say, they will put a spin on anything to get them along a little further. Like Paula always told you... "keep true to yourself" I really admire you for caring enough to explain your side of the story, not that any of us die hard fans even care. You will always be number one
I have been one of your biggest fans, since I was around 1024 on your MySpace Friends List. OMG, When you sang Love Lies Bleeding I told my kids you are a STAR! You are the BEST and with the Boys playing behind you, well lets just say, "Here's To 2008 And Another Year of Most Albums Sold"
My Son gets married in Las Vegas on February 12. I told him that he will just have to change the time of the Wedding or Mom won't be able to make it. "Why?" He asked, "Daughtry / Bon Jovi" I replied. That's where you rate in my life.
See you in Vegas!!
Hugs From Oregon
We support you always!!
Chris, you should know by now that we support you completely!! You are a wonderful person and very successful. The media always tries to twist the story into what they believe will have the best shock value. Keep being who you are and doing what you're doing. We love you!!
WE LOVE YOU REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS SAID!!!!
Chris, you should know we are ALWAYS on your side- No worries!!!

Here's An Idea for Dealing With Interviews
I've got a thread going trying to come up with some more ideas for you, but for now, here is my first idea:
I speak fluent smart-ass. My mama spoke it. My daddy spoke it. My husband speaks it too, but he grew up a little further south in our county, so his is a slightly different dialect. Both his parents were fluent as well. And, I am very proud to say, we have raised both our boys to speak smart-ass. You know, you have to arm your children with everything you possibly can to help them succeed in this crazy world. So, I thought I would use some of my mastery of this language to help you get through another interview like the one recently with Rolling Stone.
When you need to get in control of an interview situation you can begin answering everything in the "form of a question". Just like Jeopardy. So here is an example with the transcript from your recent interview:
Note: Always lead into your answer with a loud "bonk" indicating your are buzzing in to answer. (This will drive the interviewer crazy!!)
Are you gonna watch it next season, or do you even care anymore? I mean—
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk ..... "What is you're trying to get me to say something controversial to further your career?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah, I can imagine.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . ."What is fake empathy to try to get me to feel comfortable talking to you?"
ROLLING STONE: Right.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: — Bonk . . . "What is mindless agreement with everything I say in order to make me feel like we're "on the same team?".
ROLLING STONE: Right.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is mindless agreement with everything I say in order to make me feel like we're "in this thing together?".
ROLLING STONE: Yeah. Well, I think that you have definitely gotten rid of that stigma, right? I mean—
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is dropping lines that you will later use against me to further your career?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah. So you don’t think it is in decline? You think they just need to like rethink it a bit?
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is something "you" will say, that "I" will agree with, and you will take it out of context in your article?"
ROLLING STONE: Oh, okay, okay, gotcha.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is pretending you get what I am saying in order that I will feel like you really "do" get what I am saying?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah. Yeah, well, it—yeah.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is mindless agreement with everything I say in order to make me feel like "you are my BFF?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah, I definitely agree with you. I mean, I watched last season, and like they all sucked. [Laughs] It was boring, you know? Yeah.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is this is probably one of the stupidest interviews I've ever done?"
ROLLING STONE: So we’ll see what happens.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is what should happen is that you should go back to journalism school and hone up on your interviewing skills, and I should get back to what I was doing before you called?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah, ‘cause there seems—
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is "seems" is like "assume", it makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me"?"
ROLLING STONE: Right. Yeah, and there seems to be so few rock acts. I mean—‘cause like last year there was nobody that rocked.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is your kissing up to keep this interview going when it should have been over after that first stupid question?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah, it’s weird.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is it takes weird to know weird?"
ROLLING STONE: Yeah. Okay, Chris. Well, it’s—I think that wraps it up.
CHRIS DAUGHTRY: Bonk . . . "What is not soon enough for me?"
Then start jumping up and down going "did I win, did I win?"

.
Hope this helps!

Chris Rocks
I watch American Idol faithfully, however I get attacahed with the talent and get upset when I see good talent beign thrown away. Me & My husband & son were upset when you were gone but I said & my husband agreed that we need not worry you are going to make it big........ I am glad you did. I am one of the biggest Bon Jovi fans there is his music is so inspiring to me, it's an up lifter for me but now I have played your Cd so much My husband says you are wearing Daughtry CD out give him a rest........ lol I am so excited and can't wait to hear you all open for Bon Jovi it will be the best night ever. Chris Rocks
Good for you Chris youare honest and no one can ask for anything more than that good for you
keeping the music coming
HONESTLY!
Honestly,I never got into AI.
I always gave it a shot when it came on....but I just never got into it!
That is until you were on.
My kids,my husband and I,all were estatic when we first heard you sing!
Needless to say,I (and the family) watched the show and voted faithfully!
We were uplifted on the stories you shared of your life!
My husband always thinks "regular every day people" don't really ever get a break, you proved him wrong my friend!
We were proud to see you make them songs yours, and you showed the world who you were!
And yes we were saddened when that "vote" came in and you were gone!
But at that moment, the hubby and I looked at each other and said,"It don't matter,he is gonna go far and maybe it is for the best.He won't be tied down!"
So here you are,a SUPERSTAR! A HERO to most! Giving interviews to ROLLING STONE.
WOW!
Don't let the small stuff bother you!
I don't know you personally, but your music, your voice that is filled with so much feeling, makes me feel like I do know you!
Just always remember who you are and were you came from, don't ever let anyone change you!
I feel like your music came straight from my life....You are AWESOME!
Thank You!

Lesson Learned
I once read an article with Halle Berry in, I think, Esquire where she went on to say she doesn't like to give interviews to magazines because they ALWAYS change what you say and make it something that it wasn't. She also said she would only give that interview if she could write the interview in her words. What she did is change the interview on them and made the interviewer to be a pervert and changed everything he said to her. That was the last interview she gave to a magazine until she became pregnant. Anyway the point is, is that what press does they take the words you say and change them to make you look like a jerk or ungrateful. That's why you don't see a lot of REAL interviews with celebrities because they're so guarded and they should be. It's great to be honest but reporters can not be trusted. They never print the truth. People prefer to believe the lies because lies are more interesting. I read but never believe in reporters. That dudes got to find a way to sleep with himself at night and as long as you know YOU were honest that's all that matters.
No worries
Chris
Don't you worry your pretty lil bald head about any of this. You don't have to answer to anyone in this life, the One who gave you life is the only one you have to answer to. The One who has blessed you with an amazing talent that inspires me everyday. The people here are on earth have no right to judge you my dear, keep that gorgeous head up towards the sky. We all love you, and respect you entirely. God bless!!!
Ally
Get Over It!
People need to worry more about all the other stuff happening in this world, and less time worrying about a TV show! Chris is obviously an amazing musician, and Idol should be glad to get a mention, considering the crappy ratings they are getting! Being honest is a great trait to have, would they be happier if Chris had said something to the effect of "oh yeah, i t-vo every episode so i can watch those amazing performances all day and night".....he was being honest and isn't that something our parents always taught us? It is flabbergasting to be hassled for simply being honest! Oh well, lets worry about the more important issues in this world, such as listening to our Daughtry CD's as often as possible- and getting to as many shows as possible!
Be Happy for the Music!

it happens to everyone

It happens to EVERYONE at one time or another. Things we do or say get taken out of context and it leaves us feeling sick to our stomachs that our own words were misunderstood. Hold your head high and be proud of all the lives you have touched with your beautiful music.
