Explicit Lyrics?

So my preteen daughter is a big fan, voted on the show all that good stuff. Took her to see Daughtry when he came through OH in small clubs, then caught him at the OSU fair.

So I got great seats for the show in Ft Wayne, and figured I'd familiarize myself with the opening acts, I knew at least one song I heard on the radio. I guess now I'm a tad concerned. Seems the one group has a long list of explicit songs.

Daughtry has always been very kid friendly at any show and in the past, his opening acts have been as well. I am hoping for her poor ears these acts are as well.

Anyone have any knowledge of how the shows are being run lately?

I am taking my 8 yr old to this show.... I know what your saying!!
when I heard who would be opening. I researched... to become more familiar with the music.
I was REALLY SHOCKED when I heard some of the songs!
I still can't believe they chose TOADM to open! Just my opinion.
Going to DAUGHTRY shows in the past.... I see a lot of young kids there!
I'm just hoping they don't sing the explicit songs!!

Your dead on Jacy, I'm not imply he hasn't work hard, just trying to paraphrase what I'm sure a lot of *other* people say. Heck, even Bon Jovi said it for years about AI, then apparently changed his opinion.

If you have actual talent, playing in a bar for 10-15 years isn't what makes you a star. Playing in a bar, or any venue, at the right place and time when someone with some influence hears you, is all it takes.

You could walk into a bar, on open mic night, lay down a song or two and just happen to be unaware the Clive Davis is having a drink in the back, and bam... the story start there! The problem usually is, it often takes 10-15 years for most of these bands to get enough attention to warrant someone to show up and listen to them! Eye-wink

Yes chris was on AI however he did not go audition find out he has a great voice and boom he was a superstar. He has paid his dues, he was in bands in NC before Idol. He did the whole busting his butt thing. AI was a stepping stone...everyting you hear is a product of the man AND the band not AI.
And Chris is a man strong in his faith I really don't think you need to worry about him turning out albums with explicit content just to get album sales. He has a great fan base the way it is and is doing pretty well for himself just being who he is!
I'll get off my soapbox nowbut it bothers me when people say that he hasn't paid his dues. They see AI and his millions of albums sold and don't look any further.

Quite and interesting comment, and frankly likely 100% accurate. If need be, I'll watch the reviews and show up for the main event.

A funny side note, the last few concerts I have been to, the floor seats were actually "floor" seats, even though they were not advertised as such until the tickets arrived saying GA. When I first ordered, I received floor, dead center, second row. Kid you not. Not having any guarantee of seats, and thinking of an 8 yr old girl, I let them go and got great seats arena level. I never though that those might be a blessing for arriving late!!!

Anyway, I'm an old 80s rocker. Poison, VH, etc. Always great seats, always great shows, rarely more than a word or two of bad language. I'd hope Chris doesn't feel that this is needed to break away from the AI persona.

First, I personally feel that the tried and true rockers won't accept him anyway. Like it or not, it's simply a thing. If you came from AI, you didn't spent 10 yrs grinding the stages, working your butt off. That doesn't make him less of an artist, but whatever street cred he's looking for, he will earn with his music, his longevity and his effort. Look at Nickleback, they are not an AI band, and most of the rock stations I listen to mock them as "lite rock".

Second, and more important to me, is that taking a path down this road has actually the potential to lose more fans than he gains. My opinion of course, but if the lyrics start coming out on his albums, my daughter stops getting them, and clearly stops coming to shows. I'd have to imagine that is the same for many parents.

Again, he's got the chops, the talent and the potential for a long run. There are more than enough rock bands with the language and street cred that last for only an album. Let's hope he doesn't become one fo them!

Rock on!

As you've discovered, DAUGHTRY's lyrics, music, presence and existence are pure. They probably could easily be played (and are some) on Christian rock stations. This being said, this band has been working very hard at gaining respect in the Rock band circles. They've been shaking the AI attachment and have definitely developed a sound of their own. They deserve to be on Rock radio as much as any other band with different origins but have had to fight the uphill battle to get there. They've toured with some great bands like Cinder Road, Eve to Adam, 12 Stones, Smalltown Sleeper, Day of Fire, Puddle of Mudd, little known Nickelback and Bon Jovi, and recently David Hodges. All great rock bands, but not all as clean as many of us would like. Fortunately though, every tour and every band associated with them has furthered their exposure and their street cred.

So, we finally have a big tour with DAUGHTRY as the headliner!! Yay!! The opening acts are Cavo and Theory of a Deadman. I've little experience with Cavo but did listen to their Myspace page. Yes, like you I was shocked by some of the lyrics! Also, TOADM is a great band, but their lyrics can be quite explicit and graphic! But, in the name of rock and street cred again, this tour will be great for the band. I suspect that lesser known bands with "cleaner" lyrics and values would not provide enough support for the main act.

In regards to your daughter, I applaud you for screening the content and context of the opening acts ahead of time. If you are truly concerned, then I suggest you arrive later to just see the main act. Since your seats are assigned, you thankfully are not pressured to arrive early and reserve your space. Watch the posts on here regarding the shows before yours to get an idea about timing of the sets. This should help you gauge when to arrive and miss the potential lyrics and acts that may not be appropriate for her. Oh, and don't forget to have fun!!! DAUGHTRY Rocks!!!
