anyone watching new season of American Idol??
I am going to watch it. Though didnt really care too much about last season but thats just me. i hoping this season will be better BUT in my opinion NOONE will EVER be as good as Chris Daughtry and David Cook. They both are truly the best in American Idol history

I can't get "Pants on the ground" out of my head lol.
The one thing that really urks me during the auditions is the stories. I don't think they should show them unless the person goes through. They waste so much time when they could be showing us more auditions! By the end of the show you've only seen 1/4 of the people who got through.
Haven't had anyone stand out to me yet, good ones but not great.
On Wednesday Jason Castro was in the area and I wanted to go but I stayed and watched idol cause I'm an idiot lol. It's not that I'm a big fan of his but he seems fun and I think his music would be feel good/happy tunes. Now I regret not going, can't do anything about it now.
I think the last 2 seasons have been the best so far.

Pam you’re so funny. LOL And agree with a lot of what you had to say.
Yvonne I would never compare anyone else to Chris b/c he’s so terrific and one of a kind. No other rocker is going to be as amazing or have as good as success.
I don’t know. Generally those I liked through audtions and early on are the ones I enjoyed from the getgo.

Starts next Friday here in NZ And I can't wait. I admit to being an Idol addict! Never miss a show!
Looking forward to seeing Ellen as part of it too!
I know they'll never be another Chris, and don't look for anyone to compare with him. No-one has every stood out the same for me.
I just enjoy the singing and entertainment of seeing talented performers.
But don't want to see too many idiots, though some are funny.

It takes a lot for me to REALLY like one of the contestants though. I seem to pay more attention during top24. The auditions are more for fun but some catch my eye. I remember liking Chris and Carrie from day 1 of auditions though. I seem to think most are "ok" at auditions too. I don't like to really start liking someone until they make top 24 because they could end up with a good audition and then get cut in Hollywood or their audition was ok and then they make me take up and notice in Hollywood.
I would like to see a few of them make it to top 24 that I have seen so far.

I see a lot of people being sent to Hollywood that can sing, but don't have that star quality to their voice. They're just OK. I've found myself saying "They're good enough to get to Hollywood," instead of "wow they're great" like I have in past seasons. It seems like they only show the good people that have an inspirational back story during the audition process lately though, and most of the great singers sneak up on us in Hollywood. Like David Cook...I had no idea who he was until the semi-finals, and then I was like, "Oh, he's the guy Simon said seemed naked without his guitar!" Then I started really liking him at that point...same with Kris last season, although I did remember him from the auditions.

The judges rave over people that I don't think much of. Maybe I compare them all to the greats that have come out of Idol-even the not so greats but doing alright for themselves. No one has come close to any of them. I liked Germaine- the black guy who sang (if God was) One of Us. The policeman was good but looked like a grown up Chicken Little to me. I was glad that the backwoods country girl got a yellow ticket to Hollywood so she can ride an air-o-plane! "Pants on the ground"! That was cute.

Wasn't sure if I would or not but it's been on and most of it has been entertaining but nobody has truly caught my eye or interest yet. I have found it to be very entertaining and funny at times and yeah some people on there have been able to sing but not just being blown away and if that does not happen I can't make myself continue after the audtions are over.
I liked Victoria Posh more than Mary J. Blige. And I can't see this show continuing on w/out Simon. It would not be the same and would not feel right I think.......
Terri you're right last guy was funny and catchy if I might add. They were all having fun with it.

I thought auditions were sorta boring. I don't like the gimmick people. Last guy was funny. I bet they have him on the finale. They seem to always do that. I didn't really like country girl's voice but I liked her. The cop was good. What did you guys think?

Terri
Didn't they use a Carrie Underwood version of Home Sweet Home last year, and a Ruben Studdard song recorded specifically for the show the year before? I might have my seasons mixed up, but I definitely remember them doing that the last couple of years or so. They might stick with the trend this year too, and I don't think we heard about the song until the live shows started.

I don't know if I can watch it without Simon. But I agree, I didn't really notice Paula's absence. I sorta like the guest judges sitting in for the auditions. And I really like Ellen, so I am curious to see how she will do.
Has anyone heard what the boot song will be this year?
--
~~~Daughtry Lifer ~~~
Terri
I knew he looked like someone!
And I agree - I didn't really miss Paula last night. I didn't even think about her once the auditions started. I guess it's a good thing, because it shows, unfortunately for her, that the show can still go on without her (which will not be the case when Simon leaves - I know I'll miss him). Plus it helps that they've done the guest judge thing before, so I'm used to random celebrities coming in for the auditions. I think it'll be a little strange during Hollywood week when Ellen starts, just because then you're totally aware that Paula's not on the show anymore, and Ellen is judging in her place.
Loved Kara last night though! I personally don't understand how some people can't stand her. She has a lot of experience in the music industry, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's like a more PC version of Simon.
We seem to agree "for now" (ha ha) on favorites. No one knocked my socks off yet. If I had to pick one- Justin. And his looks have nothing to do with it
Tyler was a surprise. I didn't expect him to sing well. The girls~ I liked Maddy, the girl with the grandma and one other - a pretty (until she smiled big) dark haired girl.
I hate to say it but when it was over I realized that I did not miss Paula. I always liked her, was sad to see her go, but it didn't impact the show for me. I hope she is doing ok with it all.
Terri-now that you mention it the one guy did look like Bucky!
--
~*Pam*~
~*Pam*~
At first I thought the spiritual guy was Bucky's younger brother. haha
Terri
I liked the girl with the brothers with down syndrome (Maddy, I believe). Also thought the girl with the grandmother with alzheimers was good too. And the girl that went to Berkeley. Guys I liked were the one that had cancer, the rocker dude that looked like Mick Jagger in his younger days (really surprised me), and there was one guy that sang "Fall for You" that was really good too.
How about the crazy rude guy that looked like the creepy stalker from Red Eye? He was very strange - and I felt the same way Kara did about him. Got a weird creepy vibe from him through the TV; I can only imagine what it was like to be in the room with him. That "holla" kid was so obnoxious - I wanted to punch him. How about the LaToya Jackson guy? Was he ridiculous or what? Simon had him pegged when he said he sounded ridiculous considering he had a beard - he really did look like a girl with a goatee...strange. Oh and the guy with the long blonde hair that's really spiritual??? He sounded like a human auto tune machine!
Now I can't do it because Simon is going bye-bye. I wanted to meet him. Lmao.
Terri - I don't know, but he has this one song, "Floating Off the Ground." I love it.
I did watch last year they had alot of good talent a great top 4 and the debates on here were fun to read!
--
it got way out of control last year-by some-not all. By very few actually but I sat back and watched it get ugly.
Now that I think of it, it was kind of fun to watch! ha ha!! But I hated to see differences of opinion come between Daughtry fans. There are a couple of people I do not see post here anymore ...shame.
That was what I was referring too. Her analogies were cute but not for more than one night. I'm sure she will be ok. She has always supported Idol on her show. My fave Simon saying "I don't mean to be rude but...."!!!
It will not be the same without Simon. It's hard to believe he'd start The X Factor while Idol is still going. Sounds like the shows will air in different seasons but still. You'll have the winners of both shows releasing records. Too much? X-Factor did give us Leona Lewis.
Yeah I have watched from the beginning too. Of course season 5 is my favorite season.
I haven't enjoyed the past 3 seasons as much although last year was pretty good. I saw that Simon is quitting after this season. That will really change things if they continue without him. I'm hoping it's a good season.
Patty~I love the bad auditions too. If I was to try out, I'd be right there in that group.
Been faithful since the beginning. Regardless of how much the contest has changed over the years and the things I didn't like, it's still fun to see amateurs get up there and wow us while they hopefully realize their dreams! It's a bonus when we get the likes of KC, CU, CD, DC and AL out of it!
Agreed Steph, if Ellen does what she did on SYTYCD that will drive me crazy. Hopefully she'll be the voice of the real people like us. I hope it's refreshing having someone less technical in that spot. Phrases for Ellen, oh boy, that will be fun!
This judging panel was built on little sayings - do "It was a little pitchy for me," "yo dawg," "you look beautiful tonight, but...," and "that was dreadful" sound familiar to you? It might be a little different with Ellen because she's new, but everyone has their own sayings on that show, so she almost needs to find her critiquing (sp?) niche and I'm sure a saying will soon follow.
I honestly don't think she'll be as goofy as she is on her talk show - she's said that she's going to take this judging thing really seriously. I really hope she does because I don't think I can handle her judging like she did on So You Think You Can Dance - it was fun for one night, but I don't think I'd be able to stand it week after week.
Though Chris will always be my number one!! And I don't think anyone will ever come close to him or Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood-I still like to see singers get their shot at the big time.
But I'll have to disagree and say Kelly Clarkson is the best thing to ever come out of Idol. That show wouldn't have made it if she wasn't so great. But Chris is a close second for me.
I love this show, and I'm excited to see Ellen be a judge. It should make for some good TV.
