Have you ever had the moment in your life, where you thought that you were dreaming because "Stuff this good never happens?" Well I just did. I was afforded the opportunity for a VIP meet and greet with the band DAUGHTRY, headed by former contestant Chris Daughtry of American Idol.
All the way to the Viper Room in Hollywood, California, I just kept repeating to myself 'is this real?' How does it that my luck would afford me this kind of opportunity? This event for me was a full circle moment. I was able to see the music that changed my outlook on so many things, played live before my eyes, and better yet, I got to meet the entire band.
To try to sum these guys up in a few words is difficult. Chris was extremely appreciative of our presence there as we were those who were able to explain in two sentences why we deserved this opportunity. He hugged each one of us and introduced himself to us. Not like we didn't know who he was, but to me it was more of a matter of "Hi, I'm a person like you, and what's your name" instead of "Hi, I'm rock God Chris, and you will love my music." Does that make any sense?
Then, meeting the guys was great. They're all so personable, so human, so funny. I was given the opportunity for pictures with the guys and they made me a "manwich" where they stacked me in between all of them in a picture. I couldn't be more elated to be in that situation. Just look at my pictures, it was proof.
Joey is definitely a character. I told him how I loved watching him play, his faces were just priceless. He said “thanks, I have a lot of fun making them! Then to Jeremy, I said "So you're the baby of the bunch, eh?" and he kinda blushed and said "Yes, the baby, baby, by far." He's the kind of kid you don't expect in a rock band, but he totally fits in on stage. JP is totally fun. He was really nice when I complimented him on his talent. You can see the passion for music they all have. And Josh. He didn't say much to me, but was so polite, so nice. I can see why Chris would have picked each of these guys to stand behind him on stage and deliver such a message with music.
You know - so many people are all about Chris. Don't get me wrong, I believe Chris was the means and the talent by which we have what we have from DAUGHTRY today, but the band as a whole shouldn't be neglected. It's a well tuned machine, their music. They all fit together so well. It was as if they were waiting to be born in a time when their message would mean something to someone, even if it was one, and that someone was me.
Thanks Daughtry, for the experience of a lifetime. I am most grateful!
