Releasing it is a win/win/win situation for everyone....it's an awesome song so the fans of both get the enjoyment of watching it's success, it introduces both to each other's fanbases, it gives Chris and the band a little more cred on rock radio and introduces 7D to an audience outside of rock....which leads to the long term effects that will benefit the record company by having a new group of fans interested in Daughtry and buying their CDs....see!! This song is way too good to be tucked away on a CD, it needs to be heard by everyone....so many formats would pick it up!!

I didn't realize RCA wont allow the song to be released as a single, how sad.....It must be a contract thing, Chris is signed to RCA so he can't release anything on a different label ....bet that's it. Anyway that's the only thing I can come up with as a reason.

What an opportunity for Chris and 7dust to get their music out there to so many diff audiences. Very smart collaboration. I didn't know of 7dust until Chris did this song with them. They have another fan too.

The key to success and longevity in the music business is to have songs played in multiple formats. Chris has the ability to appeal to many different fan bases and to sing different genres of music. His rock collaboration with 7Dust on "The Past" is amazing. Like so many others, I play this repeatedly daily on my ipod. It would without doubt be a hit.

Daughtry fans and 7Dust fans are eager to see it released. Certainly RCA sees this opportunity.

How can it be true, as 7Dust said, that you will not allow it to be released as a single? Please tell us you will.

Chris' voice is pure magic on this song!!!! The rock world needs to find out what we already know about Chris- that he is simply the best singer out there. I don't go one day without listening to the song! Let him gain more of the rock cred that he so richly deserves!!!!

if RCA lets Sevendust release this record, Daughtry and Sevendust gain a new audience and more fans...evryone loves the song & theres no reason not to release it! Not to mention, Chris would get a whole lot more credibility in the rock world.

I read that interview too and I'm wondering why this can't be released? Hopefully, they work things out because it's almost a crime to NOT release this!

This song is amazing and would definitely win Chris some new rock fans!

The Sevendust fans have nothing but good things to say about this collaboration and like us, they want it to be released as well. It's a win-win for both sides. Chris gets more exposure and cred from the rock world and Sevendust gets more exposure from the mainstream/pop/rock world!

I read an interview today where Sevendust states that RCA won't let them release it as a single. I wonder why? It's such a great song and deserves to be heard.

I did not know nothing about Sevendust, but with this song is now one of my favorite groups.

as well as By The Way.... got the sevendust album... the whole album kicks ass.... can't find the Theory of a Deadman album anywhere... guess I got order it online. But yeh The Past is a great song. Glad Chris has gotten the chance to work with so many other bands/artists that he himself is a fan of.

I love the song. Chris' voice is amazing of course.
