Drug addiction is such a devastating part of our current culture. I've seen drugs destroy so many lives, relationships and families...and the futures of so many talented and gifted individuals.

I was very much in love with a man who struggled with an addiction to cocaine. I wanted so much to believe that genuine and unconditional love would win out, but it wasn't to be.

I eventually had to let go of that relationship, as much as I was loath to do so.

Part of the process involved capturing the experience in poetry. (That's how I exorcise my demons.)
And it goes like this:

In the end
Pandora always wins,

She promised pleasure and a panacea
For dulling the pain you would not face.

I really love the lyrics to this song. Knowing that it is about addiction really struck a cord with me. Like you said, we all have something that we have used as a crutch, maybe something we knew wasn't good for us but we couldn't walk away. One of my favorite songs from Keith Urban is called "You're Not My God" and it's about his own personal struggle with his addictions. As you mention in your clip, we all have had one or another of some kind.

The more I listen to this new song and grab each lyric,, it makes me proud of the new songwriter emerging in you.

Loved the new song! It was a super strong opener and got the crowd rocking from the beginning. Can't wait to have a chance to add it to my Ipod so I can train to it (I am training for a 10 miler and Daughtry is all over my Ipod). I am looking forward to listening to the new stuff as it comes out.
