Why I am a fan

I am a fan (and you should be too), because...Chris Daughtry and his bandmates exemplify what hard work and determination can achieve. To be honest, I was a fan from the start. I am a 40-year-old mother of two teenagers who were big fans of American Idol. Honestly, I was not, but my kids both persuaded me to sit one night and watch the show during Season 4. I was hooked - not because of the show per se, but because it was a chance for me to connect with my teenage children. During those teenage years, it's sometimes hard to convey to them that you've been where they are now and understand the hardships that face them. Watching the show together gave us an unusual opportunity to bond each week as we would continue to discuss our ideas and opinions of the contestants throughout each week.

When Season 5 premiered, we all watched from the beginning auditions. When Chris performed his audition, I truly thought he had something - but what moved me more than his song was his story. His "story" is what continues to move me and cheer him on during his success. I saw the love, support and devotion from his wife, Deanna. Her words helped me understand his sacrifices for choosing to start an instant family over following his dream. This takes guts of a man to put his dreams on hold to do the right thing. WOW!! Those virtues are what truly shined for me on that day of his audition. You were my instant Idol favorite...silly me, I thought I would be the only one...lol. Glad I wasn't!!

Each week as Chris performed his chosen songs, I was left truly speechless. There was a presence about Chris that was rare and not seen before on Idol. A true conviction to stay true to himself - no matter what. How can one not admire that in anyone? You have no idea that trait alone had such an impact on my children - to stay true to who you are, no matter what!! I pulled for him and voted for him each and every week.....many, many times. Both my children and I were sure you would go all the way. The week you were eliminated was a blow for us all, no doubt, but it didn't take long to realize it was the best thing for CHRIS DAUGHTRY and his family, and I took comfort in knowing that.

Ever since Idol, I do my best to stay on top of what's new for Daughtry. Catching you on as many TV shows as possible. I think you were so fun on Ellen - she's great. My kids and I continue to follow your success and couldn't be happier for you. The CD is great, the band is a perfect fit and your rasie to fame is well-deserved.

I saw your performace of the Star Spangled Banner yesterday during the NFC Championship game and was really moved. Your voice really shined and you made even my husband's spine get chills...that's saying something.

Chris and band members, I continue to root for you and your success because I know how difficult it is and how hard you're working and understand the pressures and tests your new found success is putting on all your families. Stay strong, stick to your guns and have faith...of course, enjoy everything that your success is bringing your way.

I am a fan [and you should be too] because....not only can this band ROCK but they can also inspire us all to be the best of whoever we choose to be!!

I couldn't be happier for all of you!!

All my best,
K
