What can I say about this concert?? It was an unforgettable experience and I truly did not want the night to end. Living in Reading, I was able to get there early – I got there around 4PM, but silly me, didn’t realize where the buses were and stood in front of the theatre to wait. It wasn’t until maybe 5:30 when I met up with fans near the buses. Although it was quite cold and we didn’t have any sightings, I had a great time meeting some wonderful people and fans – some I’ve spoken to on DO, some were brand new friendships. Smiling

Around 7:30, we headed inside toward our front row seats. When we got there, to make a long story short, we had some trouble with our tickets. Although everyone I was with had ticketmaster printed tickets, there were women who claimed our seats were theirs – Security took four of us out into the lobby to “straighten it out.” I was getting quite nervous because we paid so much for those front row seats, I wasn’t about to be told we had to move! Security told us our tickets were legit & removed the other two women. I was so worried that was the start to a rough night! But that couldn’t be farther from the truth!!!!

I actually missed the majority of Day of Fire because of the ticket/security ordeal. What I did hear, I enjoyed and I actually caught a drumstick & the lead singer gave me the set list. Although I appreciated it and was glad to have it, I thought a little girl sitting one row behind me that I met earlier that night might appreciate it more, so I gave them to her. She was so excited and made a beeline for the lobby to get the stick signed and buy the CD! I was very happy to see her so excited. I personally didn’t care for the Midway State, but appreciated their effort and respect their talent in their own right.

I was just so excited for the main attraction!! Smiling And they certainly didn’t disappoint. The second the lights dimmed in the PAC, EVERYONE bum-rushed the stage!! We (those of us who actually bought front row tickets…) were NOT prepared for that! We just jumped up and ran to maintain our “front row” spot. It would have been more than a little upsetting to spend so much for our tickets and still not be up front. So many people crammed in behind us, we couldn’t move – not that we wanted to!! Each band member started playing/singing from behind a curtain, with a light shining on them, which was the perfect way to get the crowd ecstatic before even seeing any of the boys!! As soon as the curtain was raised, everyone went nuts as we sang along to “Crashed.” I loved having the experience of being that close to DAUGHTRY! I truly felt connected with each of them, and almost forgot about the 2,000 fans behind me! The whole concert, while I wasn’t singing along or screaming at the top of my lungs, I had the biggest smile I’ve ever worn plastered across my face. JP looked directly at me a couple of times and all I could do was smile and yell “I love you!” He smiled, even winked, and posed for a picture. What a sweetheart! Brian was rocking out, as well, and looked as good as ever!!

Josh Steely surprised me as he took over the mic at one point with “Crazy Train”!! In no way was I expecting it, but was pleasantly surprised!!! He rocked out and I completely enjoyed it!!! It was cute seeing Chris sing back-up as well! Smiling I saw Joey (shirtless) hiding behind his drums and I was trying to figure out for the life of me what that man was wearing!! He definitely looked as though he was enjoying himself and did an exceptional job with the accompaniment during “Imagine.” It wasn’t until later that I saw his black socks hiked half way up his shins, plaid kilt, and the British boxers he sported as he exited the stage – he’s so funny! So many look up to his one-of-a-kind style and he’s truly a trend-setter, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the newest fad of 2008!!

Now on to Chris – I don’t know if I’m aware of the appropriate vocabulary to describe the amazing job that Chris did. He kept the crowd energized and in return, fed off of the energy and love the crowd was giving him. It was truly amazing to witness how he enjoys performing like that! I had the pleasure of getting two or three high-fives as he passed by the edge of the stage and am not embarrassed to say how excited a touch from Chris truly made me. I absolutely loved the new song, “Back to Me” and was glad I already knew some of the words after seeing the video posted from one of the NYC concerts! I’m looking forward to hearing it on the new album next year, along with other new material. Chris’s rendition of “Imagine” was truly touching and I was so glad they chose that song for this show. “Imagine” is such a beautiful song and I find it even more meaningful coming from Daughtry! Chris NAILED every single note and it’s not the easiest song to sing!!! It was also a pleasant surprise to hear some of “I Walk the Line” in the middle of “What About Now.” I loved being close enough to see the boys interact and laugh with each other while on stage. It seemed like they were totally enjoying themselves, and I truly hope they did. Knowing Chris was sick the night before, I would imagine he didn’t miraculously get cured overnight, but he definitely did not lead on that he was under the weather. He rocked just as hard, if not harder, than any other time I’ve seen them (live or recorded). Seriously, I cannot say enough about how much I loved this concert!!!!! Each band member did a spectacular job and far exceeded my expectations. I wish I could attend more concerts and be that close all the time!

After the show, I did hang around for a bit, in hopes to see our guys, but, like the others, was chased away by the cops. Although I had high hopes since we were in my hometown and I was slightly disappointed, I completely understand. I can only imagine how demanding this life has been for the last year plus for our favorite men…we, as fans, need to remember that it is not their job to greet us after the show…that if we do get the opportunity, it is an added privileged and that there could be any number of reasons why they could not or did not want to be greeted by hundreds of fans afterward. I just hope it was not due to the actions of a fan(s) because Daughtry has many loyal and true blue fans in Reading, PA and around the area that would not think of doing anything that is disrespectful to the band or other fans. I commented on the incident earlier, but will not get into it here.

I teach at the local city school and some of my students made cards for Daughtry. I brought them with me to the show, in hopes I could deliver them to the band myself, but once everyone rushed up to the stage before Daughtry entered, I couldn’t reach the bag of cards. I ended up giving the bag to the lighting manager, in hopes he would see the band got them, knowing the guys have a soft spot in their hearts for child fans. I was nervous, wondering if they got the cards when we were chased away after the show by the cops. I went out afterward with a new friend and left to drive home around 2:30. I drove past the theatre and saw that not only the buses were there, but there were five guys standing outside of the buses, talking to each other. I parked and went over to them – they were Daughtry’s roadies. They kind of laughed as I approached, I’m sure they were thinking, “Here comes another one of those crazies!” I just wanted to ask if they knew whether the guys received my kids cards…and ALL of them said, “We know they got them because we saw a lot of them!” and they started describing specific cards! That was the [nearly] perfect end to the night, knowing that my students’ efforts were well received! The only thing that could make it better is if I could have delivered them personally and hear their reactions, but in no way will you hear me complaining about the night because to me, it was absolutely magical. I’m just so glad I’m able to tell my students that I KNOW Chris, Joey, JP, Josh, & Brian got the cards! Knowing that was extra special to me.

Overall, I can’t say enough about the night and wish I could travel any & everywhere to see Daughtry rock all the time! Best concert ever!! Laughing out loud
