OK, this is my really really long review (it will get more interesting toward the end, (I hope) so feel free to skip the beginning details if you wish ): You will have to click on the "more" to read the rest of it.
First, to no surprise, I was about 30 mins late getting to Tiff’s (daughtrybug's) house. It was mapquest’s fault. Really, it was. It told me 2 hours, and I was driving (well, over the limit a little) and it took me about 2 hrs & 20 mins, without traffic or construction etc. So, when I got to Tiff’s house, we jumped in her car, and headed to Skokie! Mapquest said it would take about 3 hrs to get there, boy were they wrong! They didn’t factor in the traffic and 3 car wrecks we came upon on the way!!! That made it about a 5 hr trip.
Well, here is Tiff and I, no make-up on, hair not fixed, no clothes on (well, we had clothes on, but not PBS clothes- so no, we did not cause the pile ups!) and we were stopped at a tollbooth for 45 mins b/c of a really bad wreck (hope no one was seriously injured!!). So we arrive at the hotel and have… 20 mins (or so it seemed anyway) to get COMPLETLY ready. We really did get ready in like 20 mins, and I had envisioned it taking more like 2 hours to get ready for PBS. LOL.
Connie (wannabeawinner), sorry you had to wait on us. Thank goodness Cam was staying at that same hotel and was nice enough to share her room with you!!! So, LJ, Connie, Robin and Cam were getting ready in Troy Aikman’s room while Tiff and I were just throwing clothes and make-up bags around in ours. We did it though. Connie, LindaJo, Robin and Cam arrived at our room (looking mighty hawt I tell ya!) Very sexy ladies!!! Tiff had to teach Connie and I how to put eye shadow on. LOL. As we are heading out, I discovered I had 2 different boots on, so I fixed that, and then we were out the door and into the “Mom-mobile gone Daughtry”.
We had to circle around our hotel about 3 times to find the right exit. Once again, Mapquest gave us crazy directions down a bunch of small roads, which intersected busy roads without stoplights. Ask Linda how it is to dart across 6 lanes of rush hour traffic (in the newly converted Daughtry-mobile) with 5 crazy fans all jacked up and ready for PBS.
We finally made it to Sesame Street (I mean St. Louis Street), and joined the other freezing fans. (Hi Terri!!!) Then we seen Karen and Karen, and Lola, and Val (who else did we see? Hope I am not leaving anyone out.) So we froze a bit, but knew we would quickly warm up inside. (When I was at PBS on Nov 2 to see MB20, they let us take purses and coats in, but had to put them under the chairs- but apparently the people behind me didn’t listen, b/c they put theirs on the back of my chair, as instructed NOT TO DO). So this time, they were making people check coats and purses (or so we thought). So after that, and the metal detector, we finally made it in. Because there were 6 of us and it was important to us that we SAT TOGETHER, we knew we would be further back. We was seated (not as close as we would have liked, but we agreed we would rather be together, and far back, than up close and scattered (ALL ABOUT DOING IT TOGETHER). But really, there was no bad seat in there!!!! But then we talked to FP (gotta love that guy!), Not Charlie!!!! This time it was FP who hooked us up. He was able to keep us ALL TOGETHER, and still give us 1st row, but we had to be on the side of the stage, but we was happy b/c we got to stay together. BIG THANK YOU TO FP!. (We did him proud too).
Ok, after a few fake intros, Daughtry really came out! WHOO HOO!!!! Man they looked HOT (as always!) It may have been a little obvious during the first 2-3 songs, that they did not get to do sound check and that Chris wasn’t feeling 100%, but after they worked out some technical problems, and many many throat sprays and drinks of water, Chris’s voice got stronger. I did notice some different arrangements of the songs, maybe that was so Chris could take it a little easy on his voice. I felt so bad for him. I can’t imagine how bad it has to hurt to have strepthroat and have to belt out like that!!! My throat didn’t even hurt before the show, and by the 2nd fake into (before ever seeing the guys) my throat was sore.
Other than a few little breaks, and re-doing (1 or 2?) songs, it was pretty much like a regular concert. Not a lot of behind the scenes kind of stuff. They just pretty much went from one song into the second song. During the tape change, the guys stepped off the stage. We could see them standing back there and Chris seemed a little worried about his voice and how he was sounding. He sounded great though. Or at least I thought so. You couldn’t really tell in the sound that he was feeling ill, but when the cameras were off, you could see it in him a little.
Oh, During "Home" they had a cool "homeish" video in on the big screens in the background. I wonder if it will be the video for the AMA's that we helped send videos in for. It was cool. Mainly "military" stuff.
My favorite for the night was “All these lives”. Wow!!! AMAZING. I just hope that the DO people didn’t over sing Chris on that one. I noticed there for a min, that you could hear us a little (he he). It was cool to look around the audience. From where we were seated, we could pretty much view everyone in the audience, and you could pick out DO people pretty easily!! They were the ones singing and having a good time. You can just see the difference in the faces of a real fan, and a paid model (and not in a disrespectful way to Daughtry fans!!! LOL). Those models may look good on camera, or photo, or on a catwalk, but at a Daughtry concert, they really don’t look as good as any real fan! Model- I AM NOT!!! Real fan who is there to have a great time, enjoy the music, sing along to every song, arms in the air, jump around, clap along, shake my butt, scream my head off and have a kick butt time- THAT IS ME! and that is MY GIRLS, and that is the DO people. I am sure there were others there who were with sponsors (I was one of them) who were "real fans", but why not let the “real fans” in the front. We look better in the front than a pretty face with flawless make up and good hair who doesn’t even know who the heck Daughtry is.
(for MB20’s PBS soundstage, the Ford Models- like 50 of them, got to sit ON THE STAGE, as part of the backdrop, with MB20 during the whole PBS taping, while even more filled the first few rows as well.) It is a little silly to me. I recognized a few of the models from the MB20 taping. If they wanted to have a casting call, one of the requirements should have been to play “the singing bee” with Daughtry music! LOL they should throw in some Daughtry trivia as well. We would all be front row then!!!!
The night was just amazing. I would have loved to see some more banter between the guys, more interaction with the fans, and more goofing off and playfulness on the stage. Some more “re-do’s” would have been nice (just to make the show longer). I just honestly don’t think that Chris was feeling well. I think several of the guys may be feeling a bit fatigued and sick. THEY NEED AND DESERVE A BREAK!!!! I hope during the holidays, they can get some R&R time and family time. I really thought they would re-do more songs. They just seemed to rush it all a bit to me. I would guess b/c they (or Chris) just wasn’t feeling 100% and I don’t blame him! It is probably a good idea not to over do it too much, take it easy and save it for the AMA’s!!!
The guys were great though. We got a lot of Chris love. He thinks Connie is “awesome”! He even told her so. He made a lot of silly faces at Tiff. At one point, some guy from the audience yelled “You’re hot Chris” and Chris goes, “Thank you guys for coming out, goodnight, the show is over” or something like that, and was chuckling and acted like he was walking off of the stage and I yelled “we think you’re hot over here too” (and pointed to my group of girls), and he chuckled a bit then turned around and headed back to the mic. Chris really gave the front rows a lot of love I think. He made his way to both sides of the stage and the front of the stage, and tried to touch everyone he could. We got several hand slaps/shakes etc from the guys as they were walking on and off of the stage. I know my girls all scored pretty well. We got some guitar picks, set lists, drum sticks (JB blood and all), autographs, pictures, and all that good stuff. Best of all….. We got memories! So now we have memories that will last a lifetime, (or until Alzheimer’s sets in) LOL It seems like most DO people really fared well. I am so happy that so many people got guitar pics, water bottles etc. Everyone ended up with great seats too.
It was a fun night!!! I about got arrested. Why is it that fun nights always end with someone either getting arrested, or nearly getting arrested? I am just kidding, I did not get arrest!!! Not even close (I don’t think). I was just kidding about that. Do you think Joey would have felt sorry for me and bailed me out though? Tiff, LJ, Connie, Cam, Robin…… you guys would have pitched in and got me out….. right????? I have never been in jail, and I don’t want my first time there to be in Chicago. I am sure it is scary enough in my little hometown! Chicago would be way to overwhelming and intimidating for me!!! I am just hoping I don’t get served with any papers today.
After the show, we waited around for awhile, Carter told us the guys were doing interviews and would be busy for a long time. He told us Chris was still realy sick. He said "you should see his throat, he has white ulcers all over it" (yep, it's strep) So he gave out autographed pics. There wasn't enough for everyone to get one but he tried. It was a nice gesture anyway!
OK, what a night, but… the night wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without my girlies!!! I love you all. As a matter of fact, I would not have been there without my girls!!! LJ, you are amazing. You worked your magic girl and stuck to our motto of “no WOman left behind”. You guys made sure I was not left behind, and I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart! We make a great TEAM! Proves that when people work together and help each other out, it all works out! But really, I am so glad that I have you girls to experience all of this with and go to these shows with, and chat it up with on the DO. What would I do without you guys? We really have all become more that just acquaintance though Daughtry, we have become FRIENDS!!!! You guys are stuck with me now. Good luck ditching me. I am not going to be an easy one to get rid of. I will tell you that much! :evil laugh:
After PBS- was sooooo much fun. The memories we made in the van- oh my! I hope some of which I am able to forget!!! (thanks tiff), and others, I hope that remain long past the Alzheimer’s! (you know your long term memory usually remains intact so hopefully when we are unable to remember what we ate for lunch today, or start putting our “granny panties” on the outside of our clothes, we will still be able to tell our story about going to see Daughtry at PBS Soundstage way back in 2007.)
I love you guys! Can’t wait to do another show with you. If not another Daughtry show soon, then we need to have a sleep over somewhere, and just go out, and have a great time!
Robin, it was nice meeting you!!!! Hope we didn’t scare you too much!!
Val, Glad you got to work it and come to the front row with us. Hope your hubby was ok with that. Glad you had your first Chris touch!
Michelle, I am so happy for you. How awesome! You worked it girl. You followed your heart and your heart is always right (well, not always), but in this case, it was!!! Congrats to you!
It was nice meeting Christina (and friend) after the show. Glad you guys got some pictures!
It was good to meet some new faces, and wish I could have meet some more of you (I know I didn’t get to meet all the winners from the DO there) but… I am sure we will run into each other again someday.
And again, to all the girls I went with, I love you and thank you for an incredible night. Oh, and…. THANK YOU TO RCA, DAUGHTRY, PBS, FP, MASTERCARD (and BH) AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE (this is sounding like an acceptance speech again. LOL). And again, a special Thank you to Linda Jo, for getting me in (however I love you all equally) and a big thank you to Tiffany, for carpooling and letting me stay in your room again (and a thank you to Big Daddy too), muahhh!
I do give free hugs as well, but a kiss is gonna cost ya
Cameras were not allowed inside (as we all knew) so I have no pictures of the show to share. Sorry, you will all have to wait until it airs, It will not be on until Jan or Feb (maybe later). The only pictures we got, was before and after the concert.
