I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...so few musicians these days have integrity. Sure, they go out and live the "rock and roll" lifestyle, which the general public accepts as cool. (And maybe that is what people believe Rock and Roll integrity is?) Sure, they play concerts, tour, etc. But how many of them are writing or co-writing their own music? How many are truly involved in the process of creation, rather than letting a bubble-gum industry churn them out insubstantial airy "music"? And for those that are involved in the process of creation, how many produce the kind of awesome, entertaining, thought-provoking, emotion-tapping lyrics and melodies that Daughtry does? Daughtry is in a very small class of talented musicians.
And then there is the question of personal integrity. Not knowing the guys personally, I can only go with what the media represents Daughtry as: family men. Even on the road, they're loyal to their wives and kids. There are all kinds of temptations out there and most rockers give in to them without qualm. You NEVER hear stories about them going on drinking and drug binges. There are no huge fights or hotel rooms destroyed. The media has shown them to be kind and respectful to and of others. I think that is WAY cooler than any hard-partying rocker any day.
I'm a fan because I love the music. Every lyric, every song, touches me in some way-- reminds me of something in my own life. The music is personal. And I'm a fan because I relate to them (or what the media allows me to know of them) as people. They seem like they'd be good friends, good people to have in your life. I'm glad to have them in my life, even if it is in this small way. Thanks for being out there you guys!
