OK, my long awaited review!! LOL

The night we were to leave for Calgary, there was a problem and my tickets got all messed up and we ended up missing our bus. So, we had to wait until the following morning to call Greyhound and get the tickets reorganized. We managed to get onto a bus at 7 a.m. and arrived in Calgary at 10:45 that evening.

The next day we traveled around Calgary sightseeing. Let me tell you, ladies, Calgary is the place to be if you want to see a LOT of very good looking men. Both my daughter and I were so flattered to continually be getting eyed up and down and hit on several times, too. We got a couple of fun pics and managed to get two Calgary cops to take pics with us. They were wearing cowboy hats!!

When we had arrived in Calgary it turned out that I had forgotten my toothbrush and no way was I gonna meet DAUGHTRY and not have my teeth brushed, so I told my daughter I had to pick up a toothbrush while we were out. Well, as we’re about to leave to go back to the place we were staying before heading back to the venue, I remembered the toothbrush and my daughter gave me hell because we’d already passed by two drugstores. She said, “Mom, there’s a Dentist’s office right there. Maybe they’ll give you a toothbrush. Go in and ask them!”

I was like, “No way! I’m going to walk back to the drugstore, but I DARE you to go in and ask.”

My daughter made me laugh like hell, because she actually went in, told them she needed a toothbrush and they gave her one! LMFAO She told them she was traveling and had left her toothbrush at the last place she was at in Vancouver. LMAO

We then arrived at the Calgary Saddledome around 2 p.m. to pick up the VIP passes that I had won. Even though the E-mail said the Meet and Greet started at 4:45 p.m., I wasn’t sure how everything operated, so I erred on the side of caution and got there early to claim the tickets so that we would have plenty of time before the concert started.

Unfortunately, there were no VIP tickets waiting for me then, but the lady at the ticket counter said that it would probably come in around 4:15 p.m. We didn’t have a problem with that and went shopping because it was at that point that my daughter’s shoe broke and that was the only pair she had brought with her. So we had to find a mall quick because I was NOT gonna meet the guys with my daughter looking like she was in rags and didn’t even have a decent pair of shoes!

Lacie had also arrived in Calgary earlier that morning and we had spoken several times on the phone and made tentative arrangements to meet up at the venue. I told Lacie about the ticket confusion but said that so far it looked like I was only waiting for them to arrive. I advised her that she’d better get to the arena early in case I had to go in for the M&G and didn’t come back out again, because Jen (hunnydusst) had mentioned that she thought all VIP winners were escorted to their seats after the M&G before the show and didn’t go back out again.

When we arrived back at the venue at 4:15 p.m., there were still no VIP tickets and the lady said that sometimes these things are late and to be patient because it should still be there soon. I had called Lacie and advised her that we were still waiting but she’d still better hustle it up. Lacie said that she had problems getting a ride and she was going to try to be there before 4:45 p.m. I then arranged with the lady at the ticket booth to take Lacie’s tickets and give them to her when Lacie arrived in case I was already in the M&G.

Lacie finally arrived at the venue I believe shortly after 5:00 p.m. and I STILL had not gotten the VIP tickets. It was great to finally meet her in person, especially after all the time we have spent online chatting and all the online fun we’ve had. Lacie took her tickets and they got in line for the concert while I continued to await word about the VIP.

I finally found out at around 5:30 p.m. that I was supposed to have gone to a “Concierge Desk” and signed in at that desk and no one had told me this before that. So I went over there, introduced myself and asked about the VIP. The guy at the desk checked and said that there was nothing there and to go back to the ticket desk again and ask. I explained that I had been there already and I was getting VERY confused.

Around then, as I sat waiting for them to sort things out, I called Lori (redhead) and we chatted for a few minutes as I told her that something had gone terribly wrong and I didn’t understand what was going on. Lori (redhead) then E-mailed RCAKaren to see if the mess could be straightened out. I don’t know if RCAKaren actually read the E-mail or not, but shortly after that I headed back over to the main ticket booth and asked one more time about it. The gal that was on was NOT the same gal as before and she got on the phone to the promotion team for DAUGHTRY.

At that point, they all went into action and finally, after the concert had already begun and we’d missed the first act, a gentleman came out and introduced himself to me as some type of rep for DAUGHTRY (can’t remember his title) and said that he was terribly sorry for the confusion and that they would instead arrange for a M&G with the band after DAUGHTRY had played their set; AND, because I had already missed the first part of the concert, they would arrange for me to get tickets to the show the following night. He said that it was VERY unusual for them to do this and that I would get this arranged to make up for the confusion. I was ecstatic. Smiling

They then found seats for me beside the stage and let me tell you, those were pretty damn awesome seats. I had a very clear view of the band and they were SUPERB. At one point during the show, I held up the Naughtry banner really high and my daughter says she’s pretty sure Chris saw it.

After the DAUGHTRY set, they came and got us and we were escorted to the M&G. It was fantastic getting to meet the guys and, since it wasn’t the “normal” type of M&G, I was allowed to take pics with our own camera!! They hadn’t taken it away from us. From what I understand from the guy at the Concierge desk, the “normal” M&Gs are very secure with people not allowed to bring their own cameras in and they take one pic with the band and then they E-mail it to the person afterwards. Also, you’re only allowed one thing to sign and you’re not allowed to hug the guys or anything, only get a pic taken.

Because the M&G wasn’t a planned thing, I guess a couple of the guys didn’t get the Memo (LMAO) and when I got there, the only two we saw were Brian and Joey, who I gave great big hugs to! Because I suddenly went speechless in front of both guys, the M&G guy jumped in and asked us if we wanted anything signed by them and I pulled out the insert to our CD and got them both to sign it. I didn’t have anything else with me, except the Naughtry banner. We got a pic with both of them and I showed them the Naughtry banner and they laughed because they recognized it. I told them they didn’t need to sign it because they already had and then they left and along came Chris.

As I saw Chris coming towards me, I felt my body as it went rigid. I completely FROZE in place and I could not move a muscle as Chris walked up to me. I was so overwhelmed that what I remember gasping out in little more than a stage whisper was, “OMG, IT’S CHRIS!”

Everything I’d ever wanted to say to this man completely left my mind and I was a complete blank. I vaguely remember Chris smiling at me and I think he said hello and I can’t remember if I asked for one or just held out my arms but the next thing I know, I’m being given the most wonderful bear hug I’ve ever had in my life. After I hugged him, he looked down at me and in a wonderfully sweet manner, Chris then asked, “What’s your name sweetheart?”

I babbled out my name and my screen name – don’t even ASK me why I started babbling about that – and he smiled and asked me how I liked the show. I told him the show was fantastic. He looked surprised and said something like, “Really? I didn't sound that good. My voice was really going there tonight.”

Surprised, I blurted out, “What? No, you are AMAZING. Absolutely AMAZING.”

When I said what I said to Chris, I wasn’t meaning only his singing. I meant him as a singer, him as a performer, him as a man, and him as a person. As I looked at him, I melted into those deep brown eyes. All I saw in Chris’ eyes was a beautiful soul looking back out at me. The look that passed between us was probably only a second or two, but it felt like an eternity.

Chris was the first to break the eye contact as he looked over at the guy who had taken us to the M&G and said something about discussing the sound afterwards. Chris then looked at my daughter and said hello to her and gave her a great big hug, too. I remember him saying to her, “C’mon, darlin’, you can do better than that. Your Mom hugged me tighter than that.” LOL

We then gave Chris our gift and surprisingly, he actually looked at me and in this very respectful tone, as though asking my permission, he said, “Is it appropriate that I open this now, or should I wait?”

I remember thinking, “Chris Daughtry is asking MY permission to open HIS gift? What a SWEETHEART.”

Nodding to him as I felt my face getting hot with embarrassment, I said something like, “Of course, it’s totally up to you, whatever you think is appropriate!”

He opened it and looked up at me and said, “What’s this?”

Since I had been very unsure about what to get Chris if and when we DID actually meet him, it had been a long debate over what to get this man. We had finally settled on a sterling silver St. Christopher pendant on a chain because, although everyone here knows I’m not religious in the sense that I don’t subscribe to any organized religion, I do know that St. Christopher is the patron Saint of travelers and since his name is Christopher, it somehow seemed fitting. I explained that St. Christopher was the patron Saint of travelers and I thought it was appropriate because he was traveling on tour, and Chris nodded and thanked us in the sweetest way.

Then we had our picture taken with Chris and as he walked away, I realized that I hadn’t said ANY of the things to this man that for so long I had wanted to say. All the things he meant to me and all the people he had inadvertently led me to meet and that THANK YOU that I had wanted to say to him for so long, but I was rooted to the spot he’d left us in, completely tongue-tied. Suddenly I remembered something and blurted out, “By the way, Chris, the Yah Yahs, the Naughtry Daughtry Girls, and Daughtry Unofficial all want me to say hello to you.”

I don’t know why the boards’ names came out in the order they did; I was saying it quickly and without any forethought, but he turned around as he continued on his way out and said, “Tell everyone I said ‘Hi’.”

Then he was gone and I was left with this incredible sense of loss but also of intense joy because I had gotten something not too many fans get. I had gotten my hug.

Then the M&G guy chatted with us for a bit and I laughed as I showed him the Naughtry banner and I jokingly referred to Josh Steely as “The Elusive Mr. Steely.” He thought that was really funny. As he was laughing he said, “You Naughtry gals are all calling him elusive?”

I laughed and said, “Yep, that’s about it. I was supposed to be the one to get him to sign it, but it looks like that’s not gonna happen. Oh well, I guess the next gal will have to be the lucky one.”

The M&G guy then said to wait and he went off and brought Josh Steely back to see us! I’m telling you ladies, Josh Steely is a SWEETHEART. We chatted with him for several minutes, got a BIG HUG from him, got our pic taken with him; and, I got our CD insert signed and the Naughtry banner signed! We also gave Josh Steely the gifts we had brought for the guys; nothing much really, because we had jokingly bought them some squirt-guns and a toy football with the Canadian flag on it. We told Josh that it was just a little something to keep them all from being bored.

Somehow at that point, my daughter showed the M&G guy and Josh Steely this pic she had taken at the bus terminal here by our home. It was taken at the Ikea across from the Greyhound station. This pic was SO damn funny and the guys thought it was hilarious! The M&G guy actually took our camera and went out with it and came back and told us he had showed Chris the picture and Chris had laughed at it.

Finally, we had to say goodbye to Josh Steely and gave him one last big hug and then the M&G guy took us back to our seats and we watched the rest of the show since Nickelback was already into their set. I barely remember most of the rest of the show because I was still on such a DAUGHTRY high from having met Chris.

It wasn’t until afterwards that it occurred to both me and my daughter that we hadn’t even gotten an autograph from Chris, but that hug was SO wonderful, it made up for everything. We both agreed that the moment simply had not been right to ask him for anything else and I’m actually glad we didn’t. It was enough to get that incredible hug, see that smile, look into those beautiful eyes of his and actually be as close to him as we were. We will treasure those few short moments forever.

Nickelback was really good. Chad Kroeger is a DIRTY BOY. He told the audience this really crude joke and I sat there thinking, “Thanks, Chad. You’ve just given my youngest daughter a new lesson in sex education!” LMAO

While we watched the show, there was this guy behind us that was really loud and obnoxious and during the show he was getting louder and more obnoxious. At one point, he actually grabbed my shoulders and shook me really hard. Finally the security had to remove him and Nickelback actually looked over as all this was going on and Chad Kroeger made some sort of reference to it as they were playing. They kind of looped the music a bit while they looked over at what was going on and then continued to play.

I was so embarrassed because probably most of the stadium was looking over at us when Chad made his comment and I didn’t want people thinking we were the ones causing the trouble. The security made my daughter and me move while they removed the guy and he was really fighting with them as they removed him. It took five or six security guys to get this guy out because he was a big guy.

The show ended finally and we left and went home. The evening seemed so surreal to me. I’m glad they actually had tickets for us to see the show the next night because there was so much we missed because of the VIP mix-up.

We ended up going downtown on Friday during the day before the second concert and we met Lacie and her friends for coffee at a Starbucks in downtown Calgary. It was so wonderful to meet her.

You’re very welcome for the tickets, Lacie. I’m just glad you were able to come and enjoyed the show! Smiling

We did get to see the second show on Friday night and let me tell ya, RCA or Daughtry management or whoever really pulled through on their promise to get us good seats. We got the best seats in the house. The concert was FANTASTIC. Despite what Chris had said to us the night before about his voice, he sounded awesome to me and we enjoyed the performance as much the second time as we did the first time. I again sobbed during What About Now. That song really pulls my heartstrings for some reason; it always has.

My daughter got some fantastic shots of the second show since we had great seats, but alas, my luck finally ran out and our camera battery died right near the end of the DAUGHTRY set. I was SO disappointed because we could have had some fabulous shots of Nickelback’s performance.

On a side note, right before Nickelback’s performance started, during the intermission, I was absently looking around while waiting for the show to start and much to my surprise spotted this guy a few seats over and I kid you not, this guy was a dead ringer for Chad Kroeger!! This guy looked SO much like him (he literally could have been Chad’s identical twin brother) that while I knew it couldn’t have been him just sitting in the audience like that, other people weren’t savvy enough to figure that out; and, shortly after I spotted him, other people did too and the poor guy almost got himself mobbed as people started coming up to him asking him for pics! His wife was sitting there laughing and he laughed as he told everyone that he wasn’t Chad, but he did oblige some of the people and stood up and took pics with them even though he continued to assure them that he wasn’t Chad and that they had better not say those pics are Chad. If my camera hadn’t died when it did, I would have snapped a shot of him to show everyone.

Then the show ended and we went back to where we were staying and took the LONG bus ride home the next morning.

So, that is everything. I’m home now relaxing and basking in the memory of that wonderful hug I got from Chris Daughtry. I’ve added a few pics for you to see. We will have to download the rest of the pictures and post them later because I’m too tired to start posting them all right now.

I hope you all enjoyed the review! Thank you to Daughtry Official, RCA and everyone else who made this wonderful experience happen for us. Smiling
