Now Chris and RCA, it will be obvious when you read this that I am not savvy about the music industry. I do not pretend to understand strategies for promoting artists, but I know that I love you, Chris and your band and your music, and that you have tremendous popularity. So here are my questions and my concerns, and the concerns of many of us Daughtry Lifers.
Why does it appear that WAN is not being promoted on pop radio? One of my stations said they would play it when they received it. What does that mean? I know it premiered on FN MTV. That was exciting, but the people who listen to my radio stations do not listen to MTV.
Why does it appear that the version of "The Past" being released to rock radio is NOT the great one with Chris?
And why did 7Dust say that RCA would not allow them to release it with Chris' part in it?
We were soooooooo excited that "The Past" would be released!! We love the song! We saw this as another great opportunity for the rock world to see how great you are Chris. What incredible disappointment!!
Why are your appearances often not posted on DO until the day of your appearance?
Chris, please tell me I am waaaay off base, that RCA has its own great plans to promote the amazing DAUGHTRY, that there is a brilliant strategy for not releasing the Chris version of "The Past" and for my radio stations to begin playing WAN!!
Your devoted Daughtry Lifer.

By the way, we will start the ONE DAUGHTRY fundraiser in August. Anyone who wishes to donate now, please PM me.

I'm just awed by the zeal Daughtry fans are showing in trying to promote the band. I can't say that I feel you what guys are going through coz well, Daughtry doesn't get to stage that many concerts here in Africa...LOL We are just waiting for the one day they will tour Africa (keepin' hope alive) and even then, coz it prolly will be a one time affair they'll get the best publicity ever. We get to listen to the singles as they are released but as for the videos...somebody save me...

It's good to be alive!
thaks for the responses its nice to know that RCA actually is reading our concerns

Definitely not a casual fan (good post breakdown). DAUGHTRY is the only CD I have purchase in years, can hardly wait for the next CD, etc.
Why would anyone want to move onto another band??? Are there others???? LOL!!
RCA - thanks for putting us fans more in the loop as to the ins and outs of the music business for DAUGHTRY!!

WHAT SITE ARE YOU GOING TOO? i would like to know. YES, TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU A LOT OF US ARE CONCERNED. I HAVE BEEN PM RCA KAREN, SO PLEASE DO THE SAME, NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. BUT, LETS NOT LET DAUGHTRY SUFFER OR HIS FANS, LETS KEEP THE INFORMATION FLOWING ANY WAY WE CAN!!!!!! PLEASE POST CONCERTS YOU KNOW ABOUT AND ALSO VOTE FOR WHAT ABOUT NOW ON VH1 AND MTV. THANKS.
Besides all the things posted below, the speed of the site has further inhibited our ability to support the guys here. Time is precious and waiting 5 minutes to open a thread and another 5 minutes to post is ridiculous. It's sad really. Remember when the site first started and everything was up-to-date and quick. Remember when the site won an award. What happened? No longer the flavor-of-the-week I suppose.
So, I also get my daily DAUGHTRY update from other websites that are accurate and updated regularly. If it wasn't for them, I'd be way behind and missing out on lots of good stuff - pics, interviews, articles, and PERFORMANCES! I've stop reproducing all the information on the DO because I can't take the time to wait for everything to post. Makes me sad really. I hope you all have found other reliable sources for your daily dish.
Finally, as Gayle said, we must double and triple our own efforts to keep the guys in the forefront and fresh in everyone's minds and ears.

In the case of Red Rocks or other venues, I would think that they would publicize the concert, as well as radio. That would be where the general public would hear about it and know to buy tickets. Isn't it already being advertised on the radio there?
It appears that those of us who rely on RCA and DO are likely to be disappointed and behind the general public.

because the band sells themselves. And all of us devoted fans spread the word as much as we can. The casual fan is more fickle and can easily move on to others. The Red Rock concert is 3 weeks away and still not listed, and the venue size increases from 4000 to 7500 this year.Tickets are only available thru the venue site. I just don't get it. I'd love for the guys to just be performing for me and my friends, but I put my desires way below the success of Daughtry.

the site needs updating more frequently..not naming names, but I get all my information from another site, WAY before it is posted here. The info hasnt been wrong yet...so I dont' know whey we seem to get the info last here.

However, I have no qualms about the way RCA handles promotion. The decisions they make may not always be the way I would do it..BUT the cd is QUAD PLAT..kinda hard to argue with those results...
they way I try to look at it, WE make Daughtry a success...sometimes we just have to work harder than others. Chris is an intelligent guy...if he is disatisfied, I am sure he will speak up for himself and the group.

Chris, if you are reading this thread, and if we are off base (like Linda says) please tell us. We love you guys SO much and we just want to know that RCA will continue to support you in the way that we feel you deserve. We Lifers care deeply for every one of you. I think I speak for all of us here when I say that you are more than just another band to us. Most of us have been fans from the beginning and we are as thrilled with your success as we would be with members of our own families. We want every CD, video and single to be No. 1- for a long time! We want to see every concert sell out, and we want you to win every award that you are nominated for. You all give so much to us, and we couldn’t ask for a better band to be fans of!!! We want to do all we can to help promote you, and it just seems like we are running up against a brick wall trying to get What About Now played on the radio. If there are other factors involved, we’d really like to know. I think we could be more patient if we at least understood a little about the music business. Bottom line, we are voicing these concerns out of love!!!!!!

The Past without Chris? I wouldn't even want to hear it. Period. Chris makes that song great and Sevendust should be thrilled that he agreed to do it, and would want the media exposure that Chris' name and talent would produce.
My guess is that RCA doesn't want anyone else profitiing from Chris' talent. Maybe he has some "exclusiveness" in his contract, or something like that. I dunno much either about the music industry. But I do know I won't be listening to The Past w/o Chris, he was the only reason I downloaded it in the first place.

Linda - very well said!
I know the boys have been on a (working) hiatus, and things have been slow because of the lack of concerts, but I too feel that they are not being supported properly by RCA. My knowledge of the music industry is practically nil, but it is a business, and business is about promoting your "product", is it not?
A "brilliant strategy" would be most welcome.
Chris, Josh, Josh, Joey, Brian ............. we love you and are concerned.
Much love as always
Helen

There is news that the Chris version of "The Past" may be the one released to radio after all. That would be great news that we would love to hear from RCA. Can you give us a confirmation?

As far as WAN, in Columbus, OH it's been playing on our smaller Top 40 station for weeks and just started getting played on our bigger Top 40 station last week so I was finally happy about that. (This is why you need to come back to Columbus, Chris, please!
)
And Doc, I don't know how you found out about The Past, but I, too, am disappointed that the version with Chris won't be the version played on the radio if that's the case. I couldn't wait to hear it and was so proud that Chris's name was attached to it. It's still an amazing song, but we lifers are a little partial to the version with you, Chris
And yes, I have to say the most disappointing are the shows we're finding out about that are still not posted. Thank God none of them are in my area or are ones I'd be able to travel too or else I'd be really heartbroken.
I know things on the site were slow when the guys first went on a break. Even I took a break from posting so much. However, things have been bubbling up again and we've been learning more through Google alerts and fellow fans than from RCA.
As Doc said, I also have no idea how any of this works, and I would guess many others on the site don't either. I'm sure there are good answers to these issues that make a whole lot of sense (at least I hope) and we just are hoping RCA can tell us what they are. I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue or what, but if you need volunteers to help post things, hey just let me know!
Chris, we can't help how much we adore you and the guys and want to know what's going on, especially with new shows!! We love you all!!!

I didn't know there was another version without Chris either and why on earth wouldn't they let them release it? That doesn't make any sense to me.
And with the shows not being posted under events on "DAUGHTRY'S SITE" ..well that has got me completely baffled. I mean, I understand sometimes a show is not confrimed yet and someone lets it leak on the net but two of the shows I found , tix have already been on sale for weeks and they still arn't listed!! I would love to hear why from RCA.
I started a thread where we could post shows in the meanwhile until RCA can get the Events updated...so if anyone hears of any ..please check under this post and if the show is not there...please let me know so I can add it. :0)

SO FAR, DAUGHTRY'S SONG WHAT ABOUT NOW IS ONLY ON TOP40HOT AC AND ADULT CONTEMPORAY WHICH IS WHERE MOST OF THEIR #1 HIT SONGS HAVE COME FROM. IT WILL BE A HIT ON THERE SOON IT TAKES RADIO A LITTLE WHILE TO PLAY THEM WHEN THEY ARE RELEASED. HOWEVER I AM SO PISSED OFF ABOUT THE SONG THE PAST WITHOUT CHRIS SINGING IT WITH SEVENDUST I DONT EVEN WANT TO HEAR IT. CHRIS MAKES THAT SONG, WHY DID THEY EVEN HAVE CHRIS SING WITH THEM IF IT WAS NOT GOING TO BE RELEASED WITH CHRIS'S VOCAL ALSO. SO DISAPPOINTED I COULD CRY!!!!! and they do need to update CONCERTS, AND DO UPDATES ON ALBUMS, AND ANNOUNCE ON HOME PAGE THAT WHAT ABOUT NOW VIDEO IS ON VH1 COUNTDOWN READY FOR US TO VOTE. SO, YEA I AM KINDA DISAPPOINTED IN RCA AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO DAUGHTRY AND HIS FANS.
I didn't even know there WAS a version of The Past without Chris on it?! Is it on the radio already? Or did you read somewhere (or somebody told you) of this version of the song? This is horrible news!! Chris' voice is what MAKES that song!! I'm so disappointed I could cry...

I agree. I just posted something to this effect on the thread about vh1. I did my part. I voted 50 times and will probably vote 200 more tonight- but my radio stations do not seem to be playing wan much. They are still heavily playing all of the other daughtry songs though.
