Westlife to cover WAN
So the rumour which is probably true is that Westlife are to cover What About Now. This explains why its been played on xfactor so much this season. Gutted about it. Love WL but they should not be covering it. They are gonna ruin it. Its been so popular it would have been the ideal way for Daughtry to break the UK!

Well, i did get that Westlife album for Christmas. *red face*
But wanna know the funny thing??
The first track on the album is "What about now". So everytime i start the Cd, i hear WL singing WAN and think to myself "why am i listening to WL sing WAN instead of Daughtry?? Daughtry are WAY better!!!!" ....and then i go and put my Daughtry album on!!
So as yet i haven't heard the Westlife album in full, cos i always find myself listening to Daughtry instead! lol!!

West life should be dropped on some remote island somewhere and never to be seen again by ruining a fantastic Daughtry song...
A friend just told me, that westlife have covered What about now. I´m really shocked. Westlife are getting more and more a cover band. That´s sad. And now they took daughtry with this great song.
Daughtry could have had more success with that song in europe. But now it will always be a westlife song in Europe. That´s mean. And I must say it isn´t well made at all.
This song needs a strong voice just like Chriss

Its such a mixture of feelings! An initial HIGH when you think 'Its Daughtry!!!', then a big LOW when you realise its not! 
I'm afraid i have to be red faced here, in that i have requested the WL album for Xmas! .....i wasn't overkeen on their last album .....but at least i know there is one decent song on this album!

Another little strange thing is that the WL video and their album cover were both filmed in Iceland. Just rather ironic for me ....that also a couple of yrs ago i visited Iceland ....and low and behold i heard Daughtry's 'Home' being played often on the radio!! (so more salt in that Daughtry wound!

Last night the Westlife album was advertised on TV here. I heard the song intro and jumped, then was all disappointed when I realised it was the Westlife version!
There they were on TV, singing what is a Daughtry song, like it's their own.
Yes, I've always liked Westlife too, and don't blame them. It's all about their management and those who decide how to sell them and their CD's!
But I won't be getting this new one - it's a matter of principle!

well firstly, Hi Yvonne! Hope you are well! xx
And secondly, both you and Scotty are technically right. Louis Walsh is the manager of Westlife. However, Simon is still their record company guy (as far as i'm aware). So like you Yvonne, i no doubt believe that Simon is behind this (maybe even along with Louis).
I too had hoped that Simon was finally supporting Chris - but sadly its not quite the case. (But then on AI i thought Simon was the least supportive! Probably cos he didn't notice Chris' talent the 1st time Chris walked in that AI door!
)
Got to admit that several times recently my heart does a little jump when i hear the piano intro to WAN on the radio!!! I get all excited - thinking they're playing Daughtry!!......then realisation dawns that its still only WL!!
Ok - and i'll admit that i still love the song - even with WL singing - cos its a FAB song in its own right!
But it does make me chuckle - cos even though i do rate WL (sorry fellas, i'm a girly and it happens!
) - i think its funny that it takes 4 Westlife voices to try and equate to one Mr Daughtry!!! lol!

Yes indeed, it is all about money for those running things in the music business! Users for their own advantages!
Not all like the Daughtry guys - doing what to do because they love the music and performing for people! Only too ready to help others in their careers too!!!!
Can only hope that those listening to Westlife singing this song will wonder about the origins of it and find out about Daughtry that way!

Hey just a quick one need to correct you about Westlife and Simon Cowell. Simon is not their manager it is Louis Walsh and he is just rubbish because he gets them to cover songs right after the original has been released, nothing new or inventive about Westlife but the only thing is they are laughing all the way to the bank. Oh and by the way I do prefer Daughtry's version of the song and I love all of their stuff, unfortunate that they have not been heard too much of here in the UK.
Bit late with this, but have to have my say.
When I was in England recently, was thrilled to hear Daughtry sing 'What About Now' on the radio Top 40 I think it was. Didn't listen to the radio much, only when driving around.
Even heard the announcer talk all about who Chris was.
Was thinking that finally Daughtry were being appreciated and people listening to them there.
Then heard about Westlife covering the song!
Was not impressed at all. I too had thought 'good on Simon' for introducing Daughtry to the British public via X Factor! But it was just the song, so he could take it and use it!
I know Simon is out to make money and his own businness interest are the most important to him, but he has gone down so much in my estimation.
He was part of the team that saw Chris get the success he has from Idol, and I was honelty thinking he was giving them a chance in England, a boost from an Idol judge across countries!!
Not using them and Chris!!!!!!
I haven't heard the Westlife version, dont want to as for me it's only a Daughtry song. In spite of the fact that I have always liked Westlife. I don't blame them!

As if westlife have the audacity to even cover this song, and ruin it... let alone make everyone think that it's THEIR song!! Where DO they get off?? I can't believe A) it's being released and marketed as THEIR single, and B) Everyone actually THINKS its theirs as an original!!

I loved Chris Daughtry due to Westlife.
I love westlife, but I didn't know about Daughtry then.
Every Daughtry fan should either start a FaceBook account or if you already have one use it to let everyone know just who's song this is. Westlife are going to end up with the credit for this if we don't let everyone know. It is a real tragedy that Daughtry haven't been promoted over here but recent acts on X factor, playing the song every week, have shown that this Westlife come back has been on the cards for a while and What About Now had been the song they were going to release, therefore Daughtry couldn't be promoted here. I am disgusted!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think the Westlife version is so bad, it just isn't a patch on Daughtry's thats all, I am just gutted that people over here who haven't heard of Daughtry are now loving Weslife's thinking it is 'their' new song!!!

The second westlife started singing i realised what it was. I am so angry. Now westlife are gunna get the credit for a song which daughtry...well he makes it really. You can't cover a song which is sung by a voice like that. I just dont like the fact the original raw talent will not get credit that it deserves
I had to walk out of the room when Westlife started singing. I could hear it from the other room and to be honest thought it was pretty weak. Dh watched it and said the fake emotion was stomach churning.
Personally I've been posting on every forum I go on about how much better Daughtry is! LOL Got friends on facebook listening to the Daughtry version - then agreeing that it's better! LOVING finding Daughtry fans on the oddest forums saying the same things I am.

God, I hadn't realised that West life had released this until I heard it on X Factor.
Awful awful is the only thing to say. The original is so much better and I just wish that Chris and the guys would come and tour the UK. I'm still in a state of shock. Th e worst thing is that it'll be a big hit in the UK for Westlife
Westlife are talentless and are now going to take all the credit for WAN. Why??? I watched X Factor and was sure they would mention where this song originally came from but it wasn;t to be. Apparently according to www, Daughtry did get to no 11 in UK charts with this song but bet Westlife will probably get to No 1. Travesty!
Westlife or shall I say pondlifes version of What about now on the Xfactor was completely hideous. How can they destroy a fantastic song with such smugness as is their standard, and the vocals where so feeble and miss the point completely.. I hated every minute of it =- and the trouble is those uneducated folk are going to think that at last they have done something original when we Daughtry fans know different.
Against the real thing there is no comparison whatsoever - What about now is up their with the best -

after having watched Westlife on The X Factor - i have to say i'm pretty much with you lizadolittle on your thoughts. If i hadn't ever heard the Daughtry version - then i would have been happy with it. But having heard the Daughtry version......wellllllll!!! Agreed .....the Westlife version is missing that Daughtry 'Ooooooomph!!!!'
And strangely Teresa, i actually thought Shane managed OK singing it - but it was Mark who didn't cope so well. Although that may just be because i prefer the tone to Shane's voice anyway. But i too have been doing my best to make the world aware that this is actually a Daughtry song!!
BTW taw - i love the name 'pondlife!' Lol!

Daughtrysversion of this has only just started to get airplay on Absoloute radio, Pondlife are now going to claim all the glory, while Daughtry is unfortunatley going to disappear, Come on guys come over here and show them how to really sing it.
Marks vocals were good live but i dont think shanes voice is strong enough for the song. Nothing compares to the original. And i agree, Daughtry need to get doing promo over here and give WL a run. I read somewhere yesterday that Kian said its a cover but because its not known outside the US that it feels like a new song. I hope to god they dont start taking credit for that song!! Ive been letting everybody that doesnt know its a cover by Daughtry.

So, Westlife sang the song live on X Factor tonight. I've got to say it was very good, but not a patch on the original. It was a copy of the original but without the oomph that Daughtry give it! Daughtry need to get this promoted in the UK and give Westlife a run for their money! Westlife are all about cover songs, never their own originals! Come on daughtry you rock!!!! Show em what you've got!
Officially, i will always first and foremost love this as a Daughtry song!!
But thinking about it technically - Chris didn't actually write this song. So although this song IS very much a Daughtry song - can we actually say it 'belongs' to them?? I suppose it actually belongs to the people who wrote the song - so if they have given permission to Westlife to sing it - then there is not much that Daughtry can do about it.
So i don't think its a case of Daughtry 'selling out'.
But just all feels so very wrong - when Daughtry haven't been able to receive the full recognition for this song that they deserve first.
And i agree that it may well mean that Daughtry will miss an opportunity to go mainstream in the Uk.
So we still just have to hope that WL version will indirectly bring more attention to the original.
At least the Westlife fans are talking about the Daughtry version - and all seem to love the song.

Why on earth were they allowed to do this? And to sing it exactly the same way?! WHY? I don't get it. Daughtry sing it so much better and it's STILL in the charts! I can sort of understand people covering old songs but not recent ones! It's nuts!
There is a 30 second clip of it on amazon. Its a completely rip off! They could have at least changed it up a bit but instead it sounds like they just replaced Chris voice for Shanes. I like WL but this is takin the mick totally!

but am really sad that they will be releasing this song - and now will no doubt get all credit for the song.
I've checked it all out on the westlife site - and after a 2yr break - the new single Westlife are coming back with is 'what about now' - which is due for release on 26th oct - so 'yes' i think we can safely say that westlife will be singing 'what about now' live on the X factor.

westlife are on x factor this sat with michael buble wondering if they are on it to plug new song hopefully not what about now!
I'm in complete shock at this. Really thought that Simon may have been pulling a few strings to help Daughtry break the Uk. But it perhaps it now appears he was laying the path for Westlife. (and the rumour is true -cos i've just heard a clip of the WL version of this song)
Let's just hope that by WL singing it - it also manages to give more recognition to the original artist in the UK!!
